Electrical grid causing noise nuisances for neighbors

stopnoise
My family and I live in Western Massachusetts. We have lived for over two years with an insidious and invasive electrical noise which is in violation of MA Noise Regulations. Our lifestyles and well-being have been greatly compromised for almost 2 years. We have been unable to enjoy a normal night of sleep for over a year and a half.

Noise pollution due to electrical sources has been linked to serious health problems. We have not been able get help from our local, state or government officials, who will not enforce the law. Instead of help, we have received abuse and reverse condemnation. Why is this happening?

Call for action

    • This is a very bizarre and puzzling report from this family.
Apparently the noise, which I assume to be acoustical,is coming from he telephone pole outside this family's house. They state that it is caused by Verizon DSL connections. I wonder if they are sure about that?
The power company controls their network with low level RF signals carried on power lines but I don't see how this could create acoustical noise. An overloaded or
defective power transformer can create quite an annoying buzz. This should be checked out by the power company.

Regarding DSL as a possible cause. I am knowledgeable about electronic signals of all types. The DSL signal is used to deliver broadband internet service to subscribers
through telephone lines. DSL means "Digital Subscriber Loop". The signals are low power ( very low power) on the order of milliwatts.
These signals are placed above the voice band and start about 35kHz and extend to a few hundred kHz. These signal are not audible by humans. Some dogs might hear 35Khz but only if the signal is converted to sound waves by a suitable transducer. A subscriber must use a
filter on their phones to prevent interference between the voice signal and DSL signal.

I don't see what connecting to neutral has to do with DSL. The signals are delivered on a balanced twisted pair of wires. This may be a power transformer issue though.

This report also expresses concerns about pure RF tones causing health problems.I have news for you all. We have always been, and are now being bombarded, by pure and not so pure, low power RF signals in the form of radio carrier waves, and by a myriad of electromagnetic
emissions both man made and natural. I myself have DSL service in my home and with my exquisite, undamaged hearing and sensitivity to noise, have not detected any noise problems attributed to DSL.

I don't think we should jump to conclusions about DSL causing this noise pollution problem. It just doesn't ring true (no pun intended). This needs to be investigated further by someone with technical and scientific experience. I would suggest that this family contact
someone in their area to look into this puzzle. Amateur radio operators are experienced in tracking down RF interference sources with skills that rivals, and often exceeds, that of the power and telephone company. They can get in touch with the appropriate individuals through a local Amateur radio club or by contacting the ARRL in
      Newington,CT. Hope this helps.

    • Ok so if this is a recording of something bad for your health, then wouldn't this be bad for anyone to hear it, even in across the web? no head phones people when you play this. LOL

Second can you be more specific how this is bad for health? This fact could lead to a solution.

Have you contacted the Dept of Public Health and report that to them Jubal. We are running into dangerous time where no one at the government level is at home to take charge responsibly. I myself face several issues daily here in San Francisco where people that should take charge are not on the top of their job. I am calling everyone to take these issues more seriously and escalate it to a higher authority.

I just post this issue because I find this to be inhuman and I feel sorry for these people. My job as a broadcaster is to expose an issue with the hopes that this will gain National attention of the Public, Media and Authorities that in this case has been acting immorally and dismissive. I believe that many people out there are been affected by cases like that and we need to take action. This is torture!

Sometimes some people have no place to go. Moving out it is not an alternative. The authorities, specially the Department of Public Health from Massachusetts should get up from their sleep denial mode and act.

I really have to disagree with you here stopnoise. Though this is an issue that deserves attention, there is always an alternative for someone suffering like this. If they really want to move away, they can do it. This isn't the Congo, or Sudan. They're not surrounded by leftist guerrillas, or a repressive military. These people have only the ingenuity inside themselves to martial the resources to act. Complaining is one thing, but 2 years later? Com' on. In this particular instance, I think they have a responsibility to control their destiny.
