I recently read about someone's experience as the daughter of two deaf people. She was called stupid, uncooperative, and rebellious throughout school because her parents taught her everything through signing and demonstration. She couldn't comprehend verbal instructions without a visual aid.
Which is somewhat on topic.
I must not be very good at body language, or certain people I meet must be very inept at reading it as people are always thinking I am serious when I am making a joke.
No one gets my sense of humor.

Communication is 5% verbal, 95% nonverbal. When verbal and nonverbal dont match, the nonverbal is the truth. But I think we all knew that already (just remember that time when you confronted your partner about cheating and he/she squirmed, looked away and said no).

The art of body language is further more uncovered in the study of NLP.Which stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It delves into how the nervous system,i.e. body gestures, eye movement, etc. reveal what is truly going on inside of a persons mind during a conversation and in general. For more info feel free to visit ...

To pick up on these things is a skill. It has to be cultivated.

body language sometimes tells more about what a person is feeling and thinking then verbally expressing themselves

Yes, and what some may find interesting is that animals comprehend this and pick up on it even more than we do.

yep . i'm the kind of guy whose always told " wow , she normally hates men " when i'm petting a small female dog who normally bares teeth and barks at guys . the open hand gesture and then letting them smell your hand always works - but you have to be steady and confident . most guys try to pat dogs on the head or slap their shoulders . to a small dog this would feel like being hit with a baseball bat . you gotta lightly rub them behind their ears . that's what they like . me and small dogs get along . ( yeah , this is a favorite topic of mine )
