The anti-obesity drug Orlistat, better known as alli, will soon be available over the counter in Britain for £1.45. But it's up to the pharmacist to decide whether you're fat enough to need it. How fat is fat enough? A BMI of 28 or more. The drug works by limiting the amount of fat your body absorbs from the food you eat. But where does that non-absorbed fat go?
"Undigested fat is eliminated through bowel movements, which can cause side-effects such as gas and oily discharge."
Sounds awesome.
Doctors say obesity is the worst health problem in the UK, accounting for 30,000 deaths and 18million sick days a year in Britain. And recent reports have claimed that obesity will end up costing us millions of pounds as our waistlines continue to expand in the coming years.

Erg. Yuck. Doesn't this just mean that the owners are about to lose their patent and they're relegating the drug to "generic" status? Get every penny out of it while you can, big pharma!

wow, this drug is pretty old. it used to be called Zenical, then alli (half the dose than Zenical)
