“In 2007, the Tap Project was born in New York City based on a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

This is a brilliant idea. If this fires up in Canada, I'll gladly pay for UNICEF, and this cause.

Awesome idea, but wrong time to implement it. Much of America just needs every dollar they can gather. Others live better and can participate and not be hindered.
Actually this would never affect me, because I haven't been able to go to a "restaurant" in a very long time. I think we celebrated a holiday late with an inexpensive meal. But that was an exception.I have no idea when I can do that again. And that is bizarre because I used to go out to eat once every 1-2 weeks. Two years ago. Not twice every 6-12 months like this year.

I agree the timing might not be great but again if you're at a restaurant the odds are you can afford a dollar. The other thing is people should realize that we're going to through hard times but we still have clean water flowing from a tap while most of the world always has to live like this but they have a much much higher chance of dying from dirty water.

I hate this idea. I don't want to pay one more dollar for the damn water which has been filtered using my tax dollars. I absolutely despise it. Like I haven't been overcharged for every damn thing in the restaurant already, I have to pay one more dollar for the damn water. Forget that... If I want to donate, I'll donate. I don't want to be forced to pay money for this.

If you don't like the idea then simply say no when they ask you. I'm assuming you didn't actually read the article because if you did you'd see that it's optional. Next time actually read the article before you write a ridiculous comment.

Brilliant! Especially since so many of the places where the need is greatest also lack access to clean public water. Hopefully the process of this fundraiser will also draw attention to this other pressing issue in the countries in need.
We all live on this earth together, a little international consciousness that our suffering is not unique can only do good. - 3 years ago

Well with Codex Alimentarius on the way. why not?
Once 2010 comes in we will have likely lost this chance to help with water, to where it is needed.
Go for it!

I just went to the site and signed up to try and bring this project to Edinburgh. The site is really easy to navigate and it's very easy to sign up. I encourage everyone to do it, even if they can get one area restaurant in on this porject it could make a difference!

This is a really cool idea. I can't imagine many people saying no - it's just a dollar but those dollars can add up for the organization

I am sure the people of New York are not for it. LOL, more money going out of the country to help countries, when America can't get their own people off poverty level and stop homelessness as well as lack of Education and Free Medical of American Children, WTF, stop helping the world. This is why America is in debt bailing out every country.

It would be great if people helped other people in their own country. However there's a big difference between losing possessions like your home or your car compared to people dying because of clean water.

Newsflash, the economy is global now, and everyone is interlinked. This is humanity we're talking about, not Americans, not Chinese, not Canadians, we're all in this together. Plus it's a choice. If you have the money then you can choose whether or not to give, if not no one will glare you down. However, chances are, if you are out at a restaurant you can afford a dollar more. :)
