Our son's health is just as important as our daughter’s. Isn't it?
Children need healthy fathers just as mach as they need healthy mothers. Don't they?

[I'm not a fashion critic but I can't focus on what some one is saying when they scream 'stare at my outfit/make-up job'..
The Doctor has wisps of hair framing her large face complicated by way too much eye liner on her tiny eyes. To really scream she wearing a shiny overcoat as a top, is she going to flash us? To compliment her poor taste the hostess is wearing a 1940's apron, or child's pinafore, as a top!
When in front of a group of people one should wear classic, inconspicuous clothes to focus the attention away from you and toward your topic.]I tried very hard to focus on what the doctor was saying, and:
My husband falls in the macho, I'm tough, don't need a doctor catagory.
In fact he almost bled to death when we were first married:
A valued family member was giving him a lot of grief and he developed a superfical ulcer over a major artery in the apex of his stomach.
His family, being old school, NEVER talked about health problems.
He wouldn't answer my questions regarding s/s, wouldn't go to the doctor(people died after they went to a doctor- yeah, if you wait 'til you're near death to go!)
On the way to work he'd drive a few miles, pull off and lay on his truck seat until the dizziness passed then drive a few more miles...lay down ....drive a few miles...
His boss told hm 'DON'T COME BACK TO WORK 'TIL YOU GO TO THE DOCTORS'.
His BP was 40/undetectable, and he was still bulking to go back to work.Sent for STAT admission to ICU.
No one at the hospital could believe he was alert and oriented. It was touch and go for weeks... but the bull headed son-of-gun is still with us but still won't get medical help when needed.
So she's right regarding convincing these guys to take care of their macho selves. - 2 years ago

50 years ago women and girls issues needed attention in education, healthcare, workplace equality. Nowadays boys and men are in disadvantage in these areas. There are many programs that simply do not work and need re-visiting and re-distribution.

I'm on the fence about this issue. Mens health does need more government funding but the funding that womens health receives likely corrects the disparity of decades of sexist healthcare.

Wwwwhat's up Doc! --Bugs Bunny
please don't wax obnubilantely sexist. feminism is just another name for another worthless selfish impudent bitch. Rather, I think you all should start asking why doctors have to bullshit the INSURANCE COMPANIES to give us the care WE need, passing off costs as somethinge else because even they know how hamstrung their profession truly is, if they'd have any real integrity, anyway. And, y'know, many of US, PAY these insurance fuqs every check we get to get the half-ass care we all generally know too well....
Yeah, i'm with Bugs... what really IS up "Doc"? Perscription sales? hmmm....

ADHD is very hard to diagnose, nursediesel. I'll agree with you there. Parents of an ADHD child need to find out as much as they can about this disabling disorder....You know, I am not sure that dumping any more money into General Motors is a very good thing, when you mix bureacracy with private enterprise. Hey, did you see that Penguins game last night? Fantastic! Did you hear about that fan that crashed the private party that the Pens were celebrating at that tavern? Wow! Whoah! I just saw the biggest semi truck go by!

ADHD is a multi-faceted problem. First it's very hard to accurately diagnose and even more difficult to properly treat.
Some places have child advocates to help the child and family within the school system.
The best thing to do is to have a pediatric specialist that treats this disorder. This office will be able to direct the family to free services available and to other specialists for other testing and treatment related to this situation.
The parent will always be the best advocate for the child if they find out everything they can about the problem and the help available. And listen to the child. He/she knows what they feel. You can go to ten different Dr's. and get ten different answers.
It very frustrating and an arduous journey but the rewards are worth the effort for the whole family.
Counting on the government for anything to change quickly is not very productive.
And government involvement in research isn't a good thing either. Good luck if federal funds are available without government intervention. Lobbyists with someone else's interest are, also, in the mix.
Foundations seem to be the most honest and diligent in continuing to update the data and research on any given problem.
Good luck with everything. - 2 years ago

I am not against the research/study the difference in the surgical approach for women, man, boy, girl... I am questioning the Federal Government funding specifically for WOMEN ONLY. Many man and boys are facing health issues yet there is no funding for the research. ADD/ADHD is more common in boys then girls. There is no known cause or effective treatment is available. The current solution is to heavily medicate with a growing cause of suicide amongst the boys. I am only touching one small health issue but there are many more. Our healthcare system is broken and we all know it. Research is funded mainly by pharmaceutical companies and we all know the outcome of these. It is all for the future profit, as such they will only focus on the area that will provide the biggest return. Hospitals also employ many cost cutting techniques to provide the most common procedures to those who most likely will need them. Since male patients who more likely to have CABG it may be the reason your friend had hard time finding a hospital to perform the surgery. Obviously this is not a solution nor is the lobbying for Federal funding to benefit a specific group a solution either. The Federal Funding must be equally available to all young, old, men, women, boys, and girls. As a women and a mother I would like to see both sexes have equal access to health education and healthcare.

One of my best friends had her first coronary @ 28yo. The first hospital turned her away, said it was indigestion.
She told the ambulance crew to take her to another ER and at that hospital the tests revealed she had 4 arteries blocked. Some 90%. She was sent to UPMC and had a Quad. CABG(Coronary Artery Bypass Graph) but only after much begging because at that time they ONLY OPERATED ON MEN.
All the research, all the instruments were for male surgery. They felt womens rib cages too small, arteries too small... you get the idea.
She lived another 14 years she would not have had without the CABG.
Now they know women may have different signs and symptoms of a heart attack as compared to males.
They, also, know women do very well with CABG surgery.
Up until a few years ago ALL research was done for men only. Thinking women were identical except for their sexual characteristics.
They now know that's wrong. Most research on female diseases have been through funds obtained by women starting ways to raise the funds. WAY TO GO LADIES! - 2 years ago

Yes. But with womens health, so often politics get mixed in- abortion mostly. If they could look at womens health without politicizing it, that would be good. Even so, it would be nice to find gubmint funding for Mens Health Week. But with Obama, I would not count on it.
