India legalises sex between men

That is really smart! If I am right the new law only applies to New Delhi the capital. According to the article a ruling last Thursday overturned a colonial law nearly 150 years old that describes sex acts between two persons of the same gender in India's capital city as an "unnatural offense."

It is not only an important step toward gay rights, but also it will make easier to reach those individuals who have lived in the shadows for such a long time, and bring education on HIV and stop the disease. Because of the criminalization, many men who have sex with other men never looked for prevention services afraid of being arrested. That is really going to help.

    • "To choose someone of the same sex for one's sexual activity is to annul the rich symbolism and meaning, not to mention the goalsof the creator's sexual design. Homosexual activity is not a complementary union, able to transmit life; and so it thwarts the call to a life of that form of self giving which the Gospel says is the essence of Christian living. This does not mean that homosexual persons are not often generous and giving of themselves; but when they engage in homosexual activity they confirm within themselves a disordered sexual inclination which is essentially self indulgent." (from "Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons.") Benedict XVI
Hey! Don't shoot me! I'm just the messenger! :)

    • The International AIDS Conference in 2008 heard that even in countries with generalised heterosexual epidemics, gay men and other men who have sex with men are disproportionately affected by HIV, and the laws criminalising sex between men and homophobia stand in the way of HIV prevention. Disease Prevention not sex laws.

    • I realized something about myself today. I'm always deriding automobiles, sometimes quite virulently, but I think much of my hatred for cars has to do with the fact that I won't allow myself to have one, despite longing to be able to drive around like other car owners.

I think the same principle applies to homophobes.

Interesting. Can you grasp the concept that some people believe truth is not relative? That truth and morality is not subject to the whims of society? "Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashion." GK Chesterton. One question, though, re: homophobia. Phobia, we know, is a fear of something thusly, "homophobia" is defined as a fear of homosexuals. Why do so many gay right supporters refer to conservatives who disagree with them as "homophobes."? I think it is an attempt to choke off meaningful dialogue. Don't assume that because someone disagrees with you on this issue that they are afraid of homosexuals. I disagree, and yet I have 3 gay friends. So how can I be afraid of them? Diagreement is not the same as hatred, or fear.

I don't think Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, or Taoism condemn homosexuality. Nor did Christ. You're pretty much talking about the Old Testament, Muhammad, and some Christian theologians who hijacked the religion. And they have all kinds of fucked up things to say about the way things ought to be, so I'm not sure I'd place absolute faith in their assertions regarding sexuality.
