I agree. Without a home-town boy to root for, US attention for this sport is likely to wane. The action is kind of like soccer as well; not much happens for a long time, then something crazy happens for a second, then nothing happens again for a while. Something exciting MIGHT happen at the end. Then again, maybe the guy who dominated for the past 2 hours might just ride through the tape, stand on a podium and put on a yellow jersey.

Cycling isn't completely doomed -- Le Tour isn't the only race inspiring the sport. The Tour of California is really gaining popularity amongst the pros...more big races in the states! Tour of America!

what about Levi or George or Chris Horner.... What about Dave Z and all the other great american riders - yes Lance is g_d ( my man idol) but the love of the sport is about the drama and excitment of the peleton as they pull back a 10 min lead to see an improbable win in a last sec sprint... or a breakaway by a 24 yr old to win the stage/ the yellow/ the white jersey in spectacular fashion.
Tour of California rox - rode a stage last year and it was packed.
love the bike / love the sport / love the spandex
