They may have missed the deadline to post the ecospots for us to vote on.
-
It's tough when your work is on the block, and there is no visible result. I hope they post the results soon. One way or another I'd sure like to know.

YouTube Ecospot search! It seems like there would have at least been an announcement on the deadline. I betcha there are some tuff choices for the judges to narrow it to twenty. I'm looking forward to seeing the semi-finalists and hopefully there will be a way to see all the sumissions. I wonder, will they be automatically submitted to Current for consideration for tv through the normal process if they didn't make the cut?

Yeah I've been wondering whats up with the ecospot I expected that I would have at least got an email telling me to go vote for them, but the ecospot page isn't even advertised anywhere on the site...

Ok apparently last night the count down was actually counting down to tonight at 11, so does anyone think they'll put up the semi finalists at 11 tonight?

I saw the countdown last night as well, but I thought it was counting to midnight tonight...which would be odd because that would technically be October 25th. So many conflicting messages - time ticking up, a note that still says, "check back in a couple of weeks" and then today's date listed repeatedly...
-
A mystery. More than -12 hrs. now. Waiting, waiting.
I do agree that it would be nice if they would post all of the submissions, after the hard work to make and edit and submit. I am sure that many people who entered are doing important things that we could benefit by knowing about--even if they don't make it to the top twenty. -
Semi finalistsLooks like I didn't make the cut, but I did learn a lot. Better luck next time I guess.

I wish we'd get an email saying, "Thanks for submitting an ecospot, but, unfortunately, you are not one of the finalists." Then I could stop searching the site to try and find my submission. )-: Sad! Soooo sad!

Bummer, I didn't make the ecospot semi'sHere is a look at my ecospot entry - I thought it was better than quite a few of the semi-finalists, but the celebrity judges didn't and that's the way it goes. Oh well.
It is a little dry and does not have any people or faces - people love faces. That is probably where I went wrong. The audio is a little shabby too. -
"DON'T BE AN ASS" ... view our EcoSpot by clicking here and not on the thumbnail! It may be that Current's video viewer doesn't allow you to see the whole of our EcoSpot. I uploaded it twice today as part of this posting (tried two file sizes), and the right side of the screen was cut off both times. Who knows... perhaps that's why we were not selected as a finalist. Though, one would hope they would have alerted us if they couldn't view the right half of the spot.
Regardless, I must admit that I was heartbroken our EcoSpot did not make the list of finalists. Not because we'd hoped to win a new car (we would have donated it, as we have 2 newish cars). But we really wanted it to be seen BY MANY. So we've posted it on YouTube since the finalists were announced, and we've been trying to promote it in other ways. PLEASE watch it, and enjoy it (it's pretty funny, we think)!
The main substance of our message is that there are many small and easy adjustments people can make in their everyday lives which can help protect the environment and curb the global climate crisis. Unfortunately there are many people who, because of their own hang-ups, are unwilling to accept the facts, unable to embrace the notion that they have the power to help, and are unable to see that they too stand to benefit from the small, basic changes they can make. We have broken these 'hang-ups' down into common stereotypes each one is a different type of 'Ass'. In total, there are nine Asses that appear in our EcoSpot (though the list of asses we wanted to include was much longer).
Our objective was to reach viewers who fit the description above, prompt them to identify which type of Ass they might be, and ask themselves, Why truly have I not yet embraced this? Perhaps its politically driven. Perhaps they just do not personally like the messenger and it has nothing to do with the message or facts themselves. Perhaps theyre too cool or too bad to get on board. Or perhaps theyre just too dim to get their head around it. Perhaps theyre too shallow and materialistic, or their priorities are inwardly focused. You get the picture. Our hope is that viewers will look within themselves, identify privately why theyve been climatologically dormant, and experience an illumination that affirms they too stand to benefit personally from such small, but critical changes.
I have written two follow-up scripts as well, as the hope was that 'Don't be an Ass' would actually become an ongoing campaign. There are a couple of other 'Asses' (Tight Ass and Stubborn Ass specifically) that we were looking forward to introducing the world to!
If you enjoy our EcoSpot, please invite your friends, family and anyone else you're comfortable inviting to view it. It can be found on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-ckvAwYHl4 (we've received some really heart-warming and favorable emails from YouTube viewers).
We're proud of it. THANKS All! -
esquareda, your Ecospot was nice and to the point.
risaboo, yours is LOL (in a good way), but maybe PG.
I'm disappointed that my spot didn't make it also, because it think it was different and important. The semi-finalists were all good, but I thought there should have been a more diverse selection. It seems like many of the spots are similar. Maybe they just seem similar because the judges were looking for this type of submission.
Also, two gangster spots? One seemed obviously better than the other and I'm not sure why both were selected, considering there was only supposed to be twenty semi-finalists to begin with.
I don't know anyone that uses incandescent bulbs and I haven't bought one in 10yrs or more (granted many of the people I know are "off the grid" so they have to conserve power every way they can.) I'm saddened that people still need to be told about CFL's and recycling.
In hindsight, I'm wishing I had done an Ecospot on LED lighting, since compact fluorescents seem so 20th century. The only thing needed to bring LED lights down in price is more demand. In any case, I'm incorporating LEDs. For comparison, my LED bulb, with 150 LEDs, cost me $90 and my 10pack of CFL bulbs was $3.99. It wasn't that long ago that I paid $29 for a CFL and if we buy LEDs now, the price will drop.
My Ecospot dealt with how all of these bulbs will be powered and is called "NO NUKES". I'm looking forward to the completion of this contest so I can see all the entries and you can see mine.
I would definitely appreciate any feed back anyone might have to help make my message more effective. I can think of several ways to improve mine now.
Now back to trying to decide which Ecospot to vote for. I've just burned my favorites to DVD to see how they look on a big TV. I'm feeling the deadline approaching and I'm wishing we weren't able to see the number of votes. It seems like a shoe in for 1st and 2nd and maybe I should vote for the underdog. But I don't think this is going to happen, as I'm going to have a hard enough time picking #1, let alone #2,3, & 4.-
