The problem is that saving their political career is all they are ever thinking about.
1) it's no longer a war since we aren't fighting a country anymore, it's just a drawn out deadly game of tag while playing political chicken with blind drivers.
2) We got ourselves in a quandry. We can't just leave tomorrow and abandon the Iraqi people that do want change, and we can't stay forever in the current situation we are in where we are doing nothing, but playing defense and not advancing on a protective front, nor a progressive one.
If anyone can tell me how we solve the Iraq problem without abandoning the people to the political whims of extremists then I'd love to hear them. The politicans you hear clamoring for an immediate withdrawl don't care about answers to the tough questions, they only care about what figuring out what rhetoric will best get them on the good side of a majority of people and what network will give that soundbite the most play.
