The mayor of San Paulo, Brazil, banned outdoor advertising back in December, 2006. Now the law is in effect, the city has quite a different feel.

This is genius. This would never happen in the US. (Adbusters must be so proud).

Yeah check this story out in Business Week...very interesting. But will it last? Nevertheless, just the fact that they're doing all kinds of social and cultural experiments in Brazil is amazing.

This story's a bit old, but still very relevant. They're really forging an interesting path in the whole digital copyright controversy happening now.

sometimes when i am walking around san francisco, i put on my observation goggles and pretend like i am on a hike, observing and appreciating the terrain, foliage, and wildlife (usually other people). the goggles would be much easier to apply if there were not advertising all over the place. although it also becomes part of the new unnatural habitat. as an aside: my fingers now automatically type the word google instead of the word goggle. oops. just did it again.
