My gut feeling is that the odds are better than 20 percent, maybe better than even. I think it’s highly likely that civilization could endure to produce those supercomputers. And if owners of the computers were anything like the millions of people immersed in virtual worlds like Second Life, SimCity and World of Warcraft, they’d be running simulations just to get a chance to control history — or maybe give themselves virtual roles as Cleopatra or Napoleon.

    These responses are lame, The Matrix is one film about such a concept, a film that was inspired by a computer game. These computer simulation film concepts have been made as far back as 1973, and and the books of Dick go back further, kids.

    It is actually more likely that we are a computer simulation than not. Look at computer advancement, that old Moore's Law ain't stopping for no one. If we can conclude that in the future we will be able to simulate self-aware lifeforms in a computer in the next 500-1000 years, then in the infinite spectrum of the Universe it is probable to assume someone has already done it, if that is the case , it is logical to assume that we are those simulated lifeforms, do the maths, you won't sleep for a while, until you realize either way it doesn't matter, I think therefore I am. Real or simulated this reality is the only one we have, so get on with it and enjoy it before the BSOD kicks in.
