I appreciate the light that you have shed and I hope that if you have any other stories from your trip to DROC, that you would be so kind to post them. One voice or PodCast can spark a huge fire. Thanks.

The first time i ever watched Current, "Mining for Bling" was on the air. The film was very well done and was at times truley saddening. I hope that this film will help make a true change. I also hope that more people will create films like this in order to inspire change.
Thank You -
just before you do-gooders start changing things to appease your conscious, please consider the whole idea. It really pisses me off when we westerners judge a situation by our standards saying, "O that''s aweful, poor kids, let''s put them in school, stop them from working" etc. Then we go in with a mind to fix their situation which causes more problems. Check with the women of the village outside of the gold mines, they can best guide on how this problem should be solved.

I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for making the mining for bling video.
All it takes to change the lives of Congolese people is for us to raise awareness about what is going on.
I know compassionate people will not allow the pillaging of Congo''s resources to continue. Your compassion has no boundary. You did a great job. -
what we need to do is not buy off the miners so that they get more money instead of buying gold that has been trough many people before it gets to the shops.

Mining of any kind is an inherently risky occupation but the conditions that these Congolese miners work under are staggeringly bleak. Watchdog groups are now calling for "no dirty gold", similar to campaigns for conflict-free diamonds. http://tinyurl.com/yr4xwm
Does anyone think this can actually help improve conditions for miners or will just deprive them of their livelihood?-

This piece makes me want to return the gold ID bracelet that my sixth grade girlfriend got me. I've been waiting for to come back in style, but even if it does, I'm not sure I would wear it now.

This is one of my favorite pods. I really wish that more people would be able to see this. If it opened my tiny eyes, it'll definitely open other people's eyes.

Capture the national tragedy of Congo's inability to control their own natural resources. The death toll is staggering. The danger that the miners faced are very real - inadequate resources, exposure to mercury, and armed militia. It is great that the filmmaker Christof Putzel was willing to put himself in the mine so as to show the actual working condition of the miners. Lastly, the pod also manages to cover the monetary discrepancy between the Congo miners and consumers of gold. A flawless pod.

Chris did a good job taking us into the Congo with this pod. I say "into" because, its one thing to show us and just explain yet its another to show us and just let the story unfold while allowing the viewers to "discover" for themselves. I cant even begin to say I know how these miners feel, because I dont. But with the help of Chris and others like him conflicts like these can be explored while raising viewer awareness. I love it, informational, and aesthetically pleasing at the same time!

You would think the UN would protect more land area and try to bring some companies in or help them make some companies too try too improve the Congo, it was also a great video.

It makes you think.

African colonization in full effect.....Africa as it was hundreds of years ago is still being exploited, and this is a really shame.....it is repulsive to see this pod... I mean it hurts me down deep....today, as we know it that it people are still being taken advantage of just like during the "Scramble for Africa" in years past

amazing how the love of "bling" and money creates the worst of problems and destroys a nation...

Another situation that is sad. One of the biggest things is the need to educate the masses. If these guys just knew how much money the stuff they were mining was worth then maybe they would be able to negociate more of a selling price. Obviuosly many more things would have to change as well.
