I thought Andrea and Jerry's video essay was really beautiful.

I too hope that one day questions of race simply becomes totally irrelevant. Maybe one day we'll all be like Stephen Colbert who doesn't "see colour"!

And I have great faith that this will happen. After all there can only be more and more of the population who are "mixed" and less who can call themselves purely black, white or Asian. Culture and identity shouldn't be and doesn't have to be tied to race.

i'm currently pregnant and my child will be an other. my husband is half vietnamese half irish, and my family is from russia. i would love to see more choices in the what race are you section of things. i'm am proud that my child will not have to check a box that is not one race but i also hope that there will be more choices. and i hope my child will proud to be more than one race too!

I have been doing surveys and credit card applications and when I got to the choices about race, I checked the "two or more races. (not hispanic)" box. First off, I wonder if government applications have added a similar choice and secondly, does anyone know why they added the ("not hispanic") part?

thanks for this great pod. i always check "other" as my race when necessary. i am half asian and half hispanic.
i remember growing up and not thinking about race at all.
once i got into junior high school i started to realize that i was an "other". i am proud to be who i am and i thank you guys for your awesome work.

i really relate to this pod, being as i am mixed (black and white) and as far back as i can remember people were always asking me "where are you from?" or "what are you?" and i've had some crazy guesses, like native Alaskan or Hawaiian. just about everything except mixed, so its good to see someone really take time and make an amazing pod like this

Great pod. I do hope for a day when we are allowed freedom from the broad groupings and generalizations, or are done away with all together.

    what an adorable baby boy.
someday i hope you won't have to check a box.
it's probably too optimistic but i hope one day people don't even begin to see race just people.

An absolutely wonderful piece! I agree with jimevans, there shouldn't even be a box. What a beautiful child and an amazing world it will be when race is no longer an issue.

I think what makes this pod #1 on the Current Countdown is the "closeness" what we experience. We don't see the narrators of the pod, we hear them. Our lack of sight (or the narrators), increases our sense of hearing. And the pictures are just an amazing visual insertion. great job!

This is a good example of the sick deep rooted racist ''wanna be white'' complex in Asian culture! I Hate Racism! This was a really disturbing documentary! They have to make a Damn documentary about Black and Asian relationships, but whites and Asians are fine? Disgusting! Asians don't realise that way back in the colonial days, ''White people'' despised All ethinic people including Asians, and only deemed them usefull as slaves!!!!! Yet Asians churned to be accepted by whites and yearned for assimilation!!! dispite the despicable attitudes of whites towards asians!!! Any of you ''wanna be white'' asians out there should be ashamed of yourselves. Don't be ashamed of your accents or your features be proud!!!!! This is sickening, absolutely sickening!!!!!!AHHHHH
