so why don't these stores and corporations donate this food to local food banks and soup kitchens? lets poke around our communities and make it happen!

**5 days after the dinner 2 people survived.

I'm all for helping out the environment by not being wasteful but I'll never eat shit out of the garbage if I'm not homeless.

Aren't you guy's just stealing food from those who can't afford it?

asian bakeries are awesome too...since most of the breads and goods they sell are individually wrapped, you can find a ton of food every night

Caught this pod today. Heard of the freegan lifestyle last year. Not sure if I would do it, since I'm a germophobe. Might be an option given the present day situation.

Yeah I remember when this was all the rage with hipsters a year or two ago...not really sure how I feel about this trend since a lot of people were doing it just to be homeless chic. But whatever...to each their own. Seems like these people are doing it for the right reason. Really well made pod though! Thanks for sharing that :)

I always get confused though because freegan was also used in the 90s and early 00s to label vegetarians and vegans who would only eat meat if it was free (like at a party) because then the animal had already been killed and they wouldnt want it to go to waste.

I am a salty old conservative sometimes.

There is another word for Freegan: Poor. Also vagabond, poverty-stricken and hobo. The fact you get your food from a trash can doesn't make you interesting or unique.

Idea: Take all that surplus food, and donate it IMMEDIATELY to the nearest homeless person, or shelter. Give it to people who need it. Get together a group that does this often, make an organization of it cause right now, Freegans (to this writer) look like a bunch of idiots avoiding sales tax.

Get the food, donate the food. If they ARE doing this then gods bless them. The video made it look pretty clear it was to feed themselves.

I'm gonna go down to Jewel and buy a big, red, steak. This minute.

Eye-opening. Thumbs up to these people for shining a light on the unfathomable waste in our country.

There is entirely too much waste in the world! I don't see anything wrong with Freegan thinking. As long as they are smart enough not to get sick. I know people that did this for years behind Hostess and Safeway! Free cupcakes rock!

I hear you about that safety thing. My guess is as long as they're careful they'll never go hungry. Gotta love those Twinkies!
