  • We often hear about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, but the majority of the killing done in today's conflicts happen as the result of small arms. In this pod we see the effect that the exportation of gangs and arms is having on society in Honduras. Check out this pod about the weapons trade in Mogadishu, Somalia:

  • This is a great report. I like the objectivity, projection, and the simple way you took your audience to see and learn from this piece.

    Thank you very much,

  • one of the more memorable experiences has gotta be our visit to the prison -- actually the penitentiary. i remember when we were first led into the big prison yard, i was thinking, "uh, where's the actual prison" .... not knowing that, there we were! it felt unlike anything i'd pictured a honduran prison to look or feel like. but yeah, there we were. amongst the greater prison population. with traditional honduran music blaring over a pa.

the people in the prison were very friendly. especially the one guy wearing a "billionaires for bush" t-shirt.
  • Even after Adam and I left Honduras and came back to our home in Los Angeles, the story followed us. LA is a vast land of urban sprawl, but many neighborhoods are run by gangs--namely, 18th Street and MS--the very gangs we reported on in this story. Driving down any random street (especially in the area where our office is located--Hollywood) you'll see taggings on walls, lamp posts and sidewalks that mark these gangs' territories.

  • Great job on this pod! Certain sectors of society are pretty quick to judge these poor misguided youths. But, if given an alternative many of them will actually come around and become useful to that very same society which fears them.

  • Guatemala fails to combat femicide
    mcamargo,

They are brutal terrorists who stalk the region. "Misguided" is a horrible euphemism. Just the casual hate crimes they commit against women and girls (femicide) is terrifying enough (rape, torture, mutilation, and murder). They are not like typical American gangs: their sadism is chilling, even in LA.

Check out the link to read how Guatemalan society accepts hate crimes against women and girls, murders notorious for their exceptional cruelty.

  • Great pod! Strong! Wish you could have filmed or caught on tape the crimes in progress on the street.

  • We often hear about terrorists gaining entry into America and inflicting death and destruction when in reality the terrorists are already in America. They live in your neighbourhoods, go to school with you or your children, and have no respect for themselves or human life. As seen in this pod, the gangs that currently exist in Central America originated in the US, one could argue its Americas version of exporting terrorism.
