Have you ever visited a monkey picnic? Do you side with Granny's Against PETA? Do you think baby white tigers are cute? This pod looks at the issues of exotic pet ownership.

the question is not IF these people care for their pets, it is WHERE did they come from? these pets are not native to North America. they are probably stolen from thier families in the wild in their home land. people capture them to make a profit. and in doing that, they endanger that species well being. THAT is what is wrong with owning exotic animals. it is NOT an american''s right to own any animal one chooses. think beyond the question being asked, that is where the real question lies.

Would you keep a cat in a fish bowl? The woman states that her monkey and her son are equals. That's messed up.

Sad news story from last Friday...Phoenix - Dozens of exotic pets allegedly left for dead. Police say a man abandoned his exotic pet shop for three weeks, in the heat of summer, without food, water and for several days without air conditioning. There were a few animals that made it out alive out of 160 exotic pets allegedly abandoned in Christopher Novak's shop. Many were found dead after they were left without care inside the business last month. The shop is located on Reems Road near Tierra Buena in Surprise, Arizona.

Proudly, I respect the law, but as the old saying goes, "The law is meant to be broken." I agree with PETA that wild animals should not be kept as pets, but on the other hand; was this animal ever wild? More likely than not the owner did not go to some far away land and steal a monkey out of a tree in the middle of the jungle...duh! So to take away an animal that has obviously adjusted remarkably to it's new family would not be in that animals best interest. Current guidelines within the law along with cases that have taken place have now come to the conclusion animals (or pets) are just as much a legal and financial responsibility as a child to it's biological parent. So, why not introduce a organization that finds domesticated animals that are of no use anymore and give them great homes? To be honest, we would probably help the species population.

Owning an animal is not a basic human right. Do animals have rights or is their purpose to satisfy people's desires?

I support the women in this pod. They are demonstrating for their Constitutional rights. They break no laws and the commit no abuse in their ownership of these animals. Until PETA unilaterally determined that no private citizen should own exotic pets these women would have merely lived out their lives content with the companionship these animals so willingly provide. When did wild fanatacism take control of public morality in this country? These women are doing what most Americans are afraid to do when the government tells us there's one more thing we're no longer allowed to do.

These exotic pets are really expensive. I mean more than the $600.00 puppy mill kind in the mall. A person with the kind of money who wants to buy say... a monkey; will most likely have the kind of funds to sustain it for its life span; say 30 years. Or dump it as soon as it has lost its luster. Oh yes, most pet owners don't own their pets for the entire life of the pet
Which I think this is the real question. We already have over crowded death camps known to most as "Pounds." They are filled with beautiful dogs, and cats. These animals require food, shelter, love, and healthcare which most people can do on a shoestring budget. Plus the most these animals live is 10 to 15 years tops.
These exotic animals however require more than just a few shots, a bag of dog food; and a chew toy. They require constant supervision, unique living requirements, a stricter diet, and introduce the population to a different set of possible diseases, viruses, and conditions normally not introduced to the people. Plus their life span is double that if properly looked after.
We already have a bad enough animal overpopulation with the lack of owners spaying, or nuetering their dogs and cats. Now instead of a occasional opossum; I have to watch for a wild monkey in my garbage can? No way. Keep the laws strict, no need for my next door neighbor in the apartment above to have a Liger in his bathroom. -
No one's saying these women did anything wrong persay. If they can keep the animals well kept and comfortable-who's to judge. But we're getting angry over the "what if?" Like the people who do abandon their pets or declaw them or take their teeth out-those people are the people PETA should be after. http://www.votk.org/

I Think the animals belong in the wild, but all the animals in the Pod looked to be pretty healthy and happy.
Peta has no place in my world. They have no place telling folks what they can and can not own.
