Ted Breaux of New Orleans takes us behind the scenes in the world of absinthe. Ted has won awards for making the drink that is illegal to distribute in the United States. Now manufacturing the drink in France, Ted walks us through the process of making the drink showing the specific herbs and ingredients he uses. The interview takes place in the Old Absinthe House in New Orleans, which is the perfect setting for a historical/philosophical overview of the subject and the scientific process involved in conjuring the "green fairy."

I''ll bet that if/when T.A. went back and looked at this video in it''s entirety he cringed at the part where that neanderthal set his sugar cube on fire. That is NOT how they did it during the belle epoch era at all and true absintheurs frown upon that method. Also TDub, the goal should be to try "absinthe", not absinth. I''ll bet you didn''t do enough research and ended up ordering from one of the many fake swill sites.

Absinthe InfoI remember seeing this stuff in Paris, undoubtedly it was the "tourist stuff."

I am thrilled that Absinthe is getting attention in the media and loved this clip! I have been drinking absinthes almost exclusively for about a year now--I've purchased and tried about 25 different brands. I am a Fine Artist living in Palm Springs, CA. I have all the absinthe louche-ritual "works" such as the spoons, glasses and cold water pitchers & decanter. As well as possibly the best stocked absinthe bar in the Coachella Valley!!
I have exposed quite a few of my good friends to absinthe and only one had an bad experience with it. Though she is a pretty heavy drinker---the absinthe made her feel quite woosy. She was not fond of the herbal "mediciney"-type flavours of the drink. All my other buds love it! I even got my garage door opener installer hooked on it!!!
I can personally say I have had no hallucinations or vision while under the influence of absinthe. Just a wonderful lucidity and clarity of mind while drinking it. Fabulous ideas for paintings have "magically" come to me while enjoying "The Green Fairy"!!
I don't recommend more than 3 louched glasses at a time---5 at the most, or you'll have a WICKED hangover!!!

ThuyoneActually, absinthe used to have dangerously high doses of thuyone which were very harmful for the nervous system. Such high doses of thuyone can cause convulsions and even epileptic fits, as well as kidney damage and kidney failure.
