It''s good to see that your not letting your parents put there bigot fears into. So keep it up, the chains of racism most be broken somewhere in the family. In time if your family truly loves you, that will see that your happy and that will be all that matters.

    Ms. Choe,

First let me say, it is unfortunate that history has victimized Americans of African descent. Quite honestly, I think the idea of race is silly and not worthy of conversation. With that in mind, an ideology based on race (i.e. Racism, separatism, etc.) Is ridiculous. But it is, what it is.

Second, I am Black. My wife is Asian (cambodian) from a family with similar ideologies (at least such was the case initially). Now, I just don''t know, and I don''t care. I have five beautiful kids that I am in love with. My wife is my ... "Life". I don''t see her as asian. I don''t see my kids as half her and half me. My kids are beautiful.

Lastly, I feel for you because I can tell that have bond with your parents and it bothers you. If you believe your cause is the right one, stick to your guns.

    Peace be with you.

I'm glad that you are not letting the views of your parents stop you from dating an African American man. Is that Tony Sinclair?

it's really too bad that you're parents can't see past color.
like you, I come from a pretty traditional korean family. but my parents have stepped out of their comfort zone to accept love for, well, love.
my cousin is getting married to a hispanic man this summer & my parents know I am not going to spend the rest of my life with a korean guy.

Wow, I'm amazed that your mother still think less of your boyfriend even though she knows you love him. Well, I guess she knows but doesn't want to acknowledge it. I don't know. This is so sad though. I've met racist Koreans too. I'm a Hispanic woman by the way. So now I have an idea why they never treated me with respect: they were probably (never) exposed to Hispanics. Oh, who knows. Maybe they were just mean. Anyway...

This type of stuff saddens me. I think the same type of attitude exists in many south Asian cultures. It's a very racist attitude to carry. I think one of the reasons why it is this way is because many of the parents are not exposed to different cultures...the way the second generations are...

But the korean American lady is one brave woman. You go girl!

I have been waiting for someone to address this. It really confuses me. I grew up in Colorado and in High School me and my friends always liked asian girls. The thing that I noticed was there parents never wanted them dating black dudes. To this day I still can't completely get down with asian women. I live in Japan so I am surrounded by asian women. It is crazy how the younger generation is so into black culture but they still don't understand us.
I don't want people thinking I am like some dude in a video. I can't rock all the expensive gear and be all trendy. I am a normal dude. I don't care what anyone but a large majority of black people got love for everyone, we don't discriminate. I use to hear how Japanese women loved black dudes, but I think alot of cats in the past jacked up it up for dudes like me. I hope there are more pods on the subject. There are alot of myths dealing with sexual relationships between asians and black that got to be address too. Also for the asian women out there trying to be something that they are not yall got to realize that someone out there loves you for you. The Japanese chick I was dating wanted to have a big booty and a big chest, but she never realized I did care about all that stuff. I liked her for her I didn't need all the alterations. As long as you treat a brother like Afro Samurai, we straight. No that don't mean be all slave like, but just keep it real. We like learning about you and your culture and we want to keep you cute and happy.

im so lucky to have the family i do.
i get the feeling that my father doesn't want me to date or marry outside of the race, but i also have the feeling he would deal with it. my mom would be completly fine with it.
certain 'outer' members of my family might "disown" me, but i don't really care, ha. they are a "certain kind" of family member that you can live without.

don't let anyone keep you from love.
