VC2 producer Dave O'Brien traveled from Los Angeles to Wisconsin to explore the gay marriage debate in America's heartland. As the debate moves from state to state, both sides passionately defend their beliefs.

    Besides, they have to realize they are just delaying the inevitable. Society always moves forward, in the end.

    ...this country is so confusing!! They want God out of everything else...but somehow we're clingin on to the Biblical institution of marriage. To be clear, most heterosexual marriages aren't shining examples of 'marriage' they get divorced and commit adultery, (as im sure gay couples will too), so what is the fear of gay people getting married? They're not gonna mess it up(that's already done). Marriage is something personal, between 2 people, it works for some and not for others, so why don't gay ppl have the right to try it out too? weird...and dumb...like someone said in the comments b4 me....SOCIETY ALWAYS MOVES FORWARD IN THE END.

  • Does it bug anyone else that the anti-gay marriage proponents' "logic" is full of holes According to Appling, the Director of the "Family Research Inst. of Wisconsin," a striking down of gay marriage would be "God's work," so obviously had the people voted a different way, as they have in Massachusetts and now California, a Godless country would arise? What?
    Not to mention, Mark Gundrum, a co-author of the anti-marriage amendment, had the gall to call gay marriage "GAY-riage?" How long will Wisconsin allow small-minded, daft people write their own laws--much less "protect" their "sanctity" of marriage?

  • Gay people don't care about getting married 'before god', we want Uncle Sam to recognise it. We want the same benefits, financialy and judicially that heterosexuals get. God really doesn't play much of a role.

  • This is why I don't like the idea of Gay Marriage....because they only want to get married to get benefits and not out of love. For if it were out of love then they wouldn't be mentioning getting tax benefits as part of their list of important wants.

    I wish they would heavily tax marriages and watch how not only the divorce rate would drop but gay marriage would be a whisper because they'd no longer want it.

    I suggest that they create their own word for marriage that handles the same rights. Why use the same name that is used for those that are in religion to describe what it is that they already stated they don't care if it's via God as long as it's via the law? That's a bit wishy-washy. If one wants to have the rights then create a different name and in doing so you'll have your own institution that will be created for you with the correct names for certain things and instead of man and wife (which is for a straight marriage) you'll have your own terminology whatever that may be.

    It's so simple it annoys me that this avenue of getting the same thing that has been in the grasp of another group for ages. It's like a whiny two year old demanding to be an adult.

    As for a child not showing any difference.....one can tell if a child has a mother and a father. One can tell if one has only a father or only a mother. One can tell. A woman is not a man and a man is not a woman and neither can replace the other when dealing with a child. For a mother brings about things a father cannot and a father brings about things a mother cannot. There are roles no matter how people want to play this gender equality stuff. There is no muddling.

    I think people are so into being right that they will ignore things that are so just to be right. Progression in society doesn't mean one has to change moral standards to appease people. But apparently that'll happen no matter what because everyone answers to themselves and no one else.

    Selfishness wins.

  • I wonder why it was such an issue if that were the case. I mean step parents have been able to adopt their step children. I want to know what the issue was now. ha.
