  • Kaj and Jael did a great job on the shark pod. Because both surfer and chummer had compelling arguments it took me awhile to figure out where I stood. In this case I went against my inclination to normally disavow the commercial act of chumming because the endangered plight of sharks has to take precedence. Exposing people, albeit in cages, to those great animals is a step towards awareness and maybe salvation. Besides, as the Pod pointed out, there was no concrete evidence the sharks followed the boats and came closer to shore. Then again why should they go closer to shore when they have Jael to look at in a cage
  • Check out 60 Minutes following Jael and Kaj's lead like a little remora. These videos were made at the tail of our shark http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/84/swimming_with_sha...

  • i fish, surf, and dive the north shore regularly and have noticed an increase in shark populations. That surf instructors comments didn't do justice for the opposition to the shark feeding.

You should have interviewed a "kupuna" (native Hawaiian elder) and got their thoughts on the issue. Sharks ("Mano" in Hawaiian) are one of the main "aumakua" (ancestral spirits who take the form of animals).

While this may be a cool pod that you shot on vacation in Hawaii, its impact is much greater than a few more shark attacks on surfers.

  • It grabs attention = It makes money!
It makes good profit right? That seams to always be the case with American products and services. If it makes money they abuse it until there is nothing left to abuse!

Very good pod and subject but I feel it needs some point of views of actual experts on this subject.

  • I'm a little baffled that an adrenaline rush for some privileged few outweighs concerns about disrupting the food supply to a wild animal, particularly when that disruption has not been disproved to lead to danger to other nearby people. I think creating awareness about a species such as the shark is better left to marine biologists that can genuinely educate more people in a more controlled environment.
