On the coast of Nicaragua, Mariana van Zeller looks into white lobster, the not-so-rare but valuable "species" typically found in the waters and on the beaches along the world's busiest cocaine corridors.

I was in Ecuador in 2001, staying on the coast. I arrived there after 20 some packages of white lobster found its way to shore.
I was not there to witness the siege that happened briefly after that, but the stories and the experience of watching flat screen TV in a muddy shack made it all worthwhile. Oh and giant thumpin speaker systems. Wild. Huh? -
In an area where the US is not doing anything to stimulate the economy, the White Lobster is truly a gift from God...no matter how evil it really is.

this makes me so mad. it remindes me that theses people are so desperate for money. im glad i dont live in nicaragua anymore.

The Miskito coast is definitely the least developed and poorest area of Nicaragua. With miles of beaches and few inhabitants, the area has a large potential for large scale resorts. The tragic thing is that if the United States tourism developers overtake the land, the natural beauty will probably be ruined.

Cocaine is KingThe Carribean coast of Nicaragua is key in the drug transit route stretching from Colombia up to the US

Another good piece. Extremely interesting. I wonder what is their rate of addiction to coke compared to the states?

this is definitely an eye opener.

This was a crazy pod. My jaw dropped as I learned about "white lobster". Considering how bad off the people there are, I can see why they view the "white lobster" as if it's a lottery ticket. It's really sad some countries are far better off than others.

Another very clever and interesting pod Mariana
-
wow, it is sad to see that hard work does not pay off as much as a quick drug deal...
