There is a large disconnect between state and federal law. Within the state of California medical marijuana is legal, at least for now, but the DEA can still come in and raid dispensaries.
In this pod, I try to explain that not only is the threat coming from the DEA, but actually from some of the patients. I am sure you all have heard that it is easy to get a recommendation, and that is certainly true to an extent. The problem is that there really are people out there who need this as medicine--if it is too easy to get the license then that right is threatened.
Do you think that America will ever be ready to legalize marijuana on a large scale? What would the benefits be to the government? Is it worth having hundreds of acres of national forests cleared for illegal marijuana farms?
Let us know what you think about this controversial topic.

Great Pod! I am a chronic pain sufferer and have had a really hard time finding a pain specialist. I have four bulging vertibral discs which cause me "accute discomfort" as the doctors put it. I've finally found a good doctor who has used a variety of treatments and I'm doing much better. It's so sad that federal law has to get in the way of medicine.

I just like to smoke weed, and not afraid to admit it, so your not a stoner if you have a prescription? I suspect some of these people are the same, I have chronic pain and it does not help, that's not to say it is of no help to others though, but the buzz is much better than alcohol and no hang over.

It is great to see someone cover such a controversial subject. It is too bad that people who live in states where medical marijuana is illegal can't take advantage of such wonderful opportunities as those in California. I have several reasons to be in need of medical marijuana. I think the government would be wise to legalize marijuana, tax it like they do cigarettes and use the money to get us out of the huge debt W has created. There would probably be enough money to also work on our infrastructure and finding ways to free us from our reliance on oil.

I would really love to know how this is helping you out?
an update perhaps?
Thanks you very much for putting this up -
Legalize it ...
Don't criticize it ...
Cause i will advertise it... -
The reason why the medical marijuana dispensories were skeptical about letting you film is because the only people that are allowed any access in there are medical marijuana card holders. Filming their business would allow people without medical marijuana cards to view what they shouldn't be viewing. Basically, you just have to understand the situation they are in regarding DEA raids and what not. They are not trying to act like "sketchy drug dealers". They are just strict about their policies, which I beleive is understandable.

I appreciate that Sarah has shared this story. I suffer from ms and fibromyalgia and would greatly benefit from the relief that this herb would provide. A girl can only dream that some day it will be available without fear of the legal ramafications.

This pod is very well put together. Sarah, I appreciate you honesty and sincerity in the piece. You really put a face to the situation. Also, there is a clear sense of conflict and movement in the piece that keeps the viewer engaged. You reveal your fears, struggles, and successes, which requires courage. Ultimately, it creates a compelling story that not only entertains, but also informs. Great job, Adam and Sarah!

Great pod! Thank you Sarah for sharing your experience with us. A video like this can help bring a better understanding to the concept of medical marijuana.

I think it makes sense that more states are legalizing medical marijuana and I understand why the dispensaries are hesitant about being filmed since it is their business that could be raided by the DEA.
I don't understand why the government wouldn't jump to completely legalize marijuana in a heartbeat. Majiuana would be a legally obtainable (and taxable) item, available for purchase through strict government regulation.
$30 billion per year in tax revenues are lost by NOT legalizing!
$10 billion per year is spent on cops, public defenders, jails, judges, prisons in marijuana-related incidences.
Alcohol and cigarettes are physically addictive and thus more detrimental to your health than marijuana and you cannot overdose on marijuana and there are very few (if any) marijuana-related deaths.
-
Yet one more reason why weed should be legal. Stop listening to all the government lies.

THIS IS WHY LEGALIZING MARIJUANA CONCERNS ME
I am a cancer doctor and I often tell my patients when they ask me about smoking pot to do it if they think it helps their severe nausea from chemotherapy and cancer pain. I do not supply it or have the means of prescribing it. However, the other end of the spectrum is a 22 year old who has a few symptoms that she labels as diseases. Hiatal hernia does not cuse symptoms and needs no treatment. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a sophisticated way of saying "heart burn" and there are lots of ways to reduce this without medications like diet modification. Weed allergy, etc.. all of these do not necessitate medical marijuana. I would rather have my cancer patients be able to get marijuana without being arrested.

Why stop at medicinal, why not go all the way, make it legal for all. People use it, and grow it anyway. The tax revenue alone would pay off this countries huge deficit in just a few years.
BTW nice pod! Sarah

I have Chron's disease which is much more painful than IBS. having these diseases feels like putting alcohol and an open wound, but the wound never closes and the alcohol never stops.
Using marijuana really helps focus my attention in school and less on the pain.
Vote yes!
