  • The only problem here is that there is not enough used veg oil for all of the potential engine uses. And, biofuels are now being produced from edible plants, not higher-production, non-edible plants. So, while I love this idea, I fear it. Also, his comment about "third world dictators" would have been better aimed at "first world leaders."

  • May I ask a practical question?
I understand you use old vegitable oil,, that was going to the trash.
    good job... you are recycling.
however.. there is only so much to go around.
    --
    so it is a solution...
    but.. not a total answer.
-but then again.. I do have this question.
I am trying to determine if this car is a T-REX.
-- what I NEED to get the answer to is this:
-- How many miles can the car travel on let's say
100 calories worth of vegitable oil?
    --
I realize this is not totally correct question.
-- what i am wondering is this.
-- how many miles can a human travel on their own power (LEGS).. by walking.. if they ate the pure vegitable oil?
and how many miles does the car go?
    --
becasue i am aware.. as a matter of fact.. that one string cheese stick,,that is about 100 calories.. gives a human enough energy to go somethin glike 5 miles on a bike.
-- I might be a tiny bit off.. i cannot remember.. it was so long since i read it.. but they do post it on the string cheese sold at wal-mart.--- and it makes more sence to eat this string cheese and ride a bike.. than it does to buy gasoline to put in a car.
it is actually more fuel efficient.. and it helps the planet and your body.
    --it is a fact.
I do some research and fun stuff for the kewlest car company.. they made the world's first human power car.
they will ahve a new web-site soon..
but you can check them out at:
    www.humancar.com

I have been a team member for about 3/4s of a year now.
they make a car that is entirely human powered.. and another hybrid.. but not like you think.
it is part human power.. part electricity.
so it is very good !!!!!!!!!!
    check them out.
and tell them Lucas sent you..
    they will treat you awesome.
    *~* trust me.
and they are cheap.. only 15 grand for the kewlest looking and greatest cars i have seen.
i am not kiding,, wiat till you see the new web-site.
    -- anyway..
I am glad you recycle old vegetable oil.
    i think it is GREAT.
I am concerned that people will use vegitble oil for their cars.. and not for eating..
and did you realize.. there are literally 16,000 people on the planet that die on a daily basis due to mal-nutrition. that is a fact. 5,000 of them in the USA.
that is a lot of people.
so,, to me.. it seems irresponsable to use brand new vegitable oil from the grocery store.
but.. old, bad, used vegitable oil seems great.
but there is the problem.. very limited amounts on a daily basis.
    *~*
    well..
you might be able to argue that you can go further by putting it in your car.. as opposed to eating it..
-- then if that is the way.. kewl..
but you have to help me end world hunger.
    thanks.
    cause i have an idea..
school kids plant fruit and nut trees for a grade. ten trees each. all trees donated to end world hunger.
think of how many kids are in school. multiply that number by 10. and in ten years.. when the trees offer food..---- realize that world hunger will end,,and the annual food surplusses will increase by double very quickly.
I already did the math.. but i don't have enough room to type it all out here.
    trust me.
this is what i spend my free time doing.
*~* and when i am doing other stuff. i am still thinking about this.
-- i even wrote a poem about it.. that noble house published.. crazy.. but true.. and that is why they published it.. cause it is a REAL solution...
now.. who is going to see it is not too late to make it happen and create utopia on earth.. no more suffering.

  • Entirely brilliant. I'm about to move back to London from NYC and will be buying a small diesel car such that I can adapt it to run on veg fat. Currently I use a small Nissan which I almost converted to electric but as an apartment dweller I couldn't hack it. Trying to adapt a battery array that could be mounted on a cart to be wheeled to my apartment for charging just didn't work out. So I kept the small 1.6 four cylinder with little guilt. I also considered adapting it to run on ethanol but that couldn't work in Manhattan either.

Every time I do simple maintenance work on the car my sons want to look at the engine. My thinking is that by the time they're old enough to drive, the ICE will be obsolete. I certainly hope so. And so I always indulge them. ICE's are smelly, disgusting things. They really are. We can do better. And we will. I have no doubt. I have two children so I have to be optimistic. Right?
