Young people who don't like dreary white collar work sometimes idealize the freelance life and think it means freedom, flexibility, fun, fun, fun and fistfalls of money. Yao Minji looks behind the freelance facade and finds some fact, some fiction, and lots of hard work.

There's a growing movement to unionize freelance workers in this country, but how successful will they be? It seems that the nature of freelance is to be independent of organizational pains, but they do need more rights. Overall, however, I think that all workers should have benefits such as healthcare and standardized workweeks.

As someone who has done more than their fair share of freelancing over the years I have come to live by three simple rules. If you want it fast and cheap, it's not going to be good. If you want it good and cheap, it's not going to be fast. If you want it fast and good, it's not going to be cheap.
