Is Shanghai still the "Paris of the East" or more like... I don't know New York City?

I think it is more like NYC (where I am from). But I found no good bars

Shanghai is loaded with good bars, you just have to know where to look. ie. xingtiandi. this is the main area for western bars.

ps. did you see the amount of men with handbags in the video? this is not uncommon in shanghai, in fact, i think it is becoming more and more a fashion trend.

Didn't much like the bars in Shanghai. They seemed set-up for foreigners and I wanted to find a place to drink with Chinese. Didn't like the farm girls who hang all over you for a Coca Cola.

I lived in China for three years and never got used to the man purses. Pretty practical though, my pockets are usually too full.

Thanks for watching hansstam. Peace, Morgan

ah well i lived in hangzhou, which is a bit more chinese, so i mostly went to shanghai for the western bars. and to take a break from all that staring. i will be back in hangzhou this year. i absolutely love china, but shanghai is good for only 2 or 3 days in a row. not so good for living.

@morganpaar: I just saw this pod on air and LOVED it. I've enjoyed fashion articles and photo spreads with a similar bent -- I see them in Japanese magazines and in Vice, for instance -- but it was more exciting to hear the wearer describe what he and she was wearing and why.

@hansstam: I definitely noticed the number of men with handbags, as well. One boy was carrying what looked like a gold lame' duffel, which was unexpectedly cute.

Hey Jennatar, thanks for watching and commenting. I have to give credit to Current for the idea to cover Shanghai fashion. They encouraged us to cover fashion when we were in Buenos Aires as well. It's a different angle:

I love Vice magazine by the way.

The guy with the green flannel definitely reminds me of the guys who dressed like him in Haight Street, SF.
