  • Joining the circus seems to be a dream job for kids no matter where they live. Kids get a kick out of learning cool tricks and entertaining others. And in an impoverished nation, it's also a means to an end.This pod reminded me of two other films, a recent documentary called "On a Tightrope" http://tinyurl.com/2xg64q about a circus school in Xinjiang,China, as well as a beautiful Chinese feature film called "King of Masks" http://tinyurl.com/2a3gf8 about a little girl who befriends and becomes the sidekick to a lonely, elderly street performer.

  • It's great to see a positive work of journalism come out of Afghanistan. I traveled in eastern Afghanistan for a few weeks in September and while I noticed the decades of destruction, I was most struck by the artistry and warmth of the Afghan people. Let's hope the future promises more joy and spares the heartbreak.

    I think it's incredible the little steps that people can take to really make a difference in the lives of these suffering people. I really liked what he said:
    "Surviving is over. It is now the time for living."
    That couldn't be more true. These people are so used to just getting through the day, they don't get the opportunity to attempt to enjoy their lives.
