Frustrated by campaign ads in the 2004 election that were deliberately misleading, Ben Dobyns, Matt Vancil, and Nathan Rice set out to expose the technical methodology of those ads in a fun, irreverent short film called, appropriately "Campaign Ad." Members of the indie production house Dead Gentlemen Productions, Matt and Nathan wrote and Ben directed the short film with a volunteer crew.

    Great piece. It was very well produced and came across like the pros... like the Daily Show. Great shots, very clean... voice over fit. Very well done. I totally enjoyed this from start to finish.

  • Excellent work! The production quality was outstanding. The writing and the premise was timely, very creative and true enough to be funny, but it COULD (in theory) be used as an actual technical guide to making such ads, so, at least on that one specific point, I'm sure that your karma will eventually run over your dogma, It was so good that one could almost mistake it for one of the REAL campaign ads used in the most recent lection season. I especially liked the part where you showed the "shifty" candidate posing with Anton LaVey from the Church of Satan and with Jane Fonda at the anti-war protest, that was really... familiar. umm. ....nevermind.

  • A fine effort. If I could offer any constructive criticism I would ask that you spend about 30 seconds on the point of view of an authentic ad. We've seen what you feel are misleading, manipulative techniques - let's see now what honesty would look like.

  • While I sincerely hope that people don't vote solely based on campaign ads, there is a lot of truth in this. Having this done as a mock campaign ad was much more effective than hearing the usual complaints about mudslinging and how lame campaign ads are. One of my favorite things I've seen in the greenlight room to date.
