Francisco and his intrepid correspondent, Joli Robinson, chose to cover a slice of the New York hip hop scene for Current because they feel a profound connection to that world, have a strong interest in the power of popular culture, and wanted to go beyond the stars and the hype, exploring real people who also set trends.

Great camerawork with a compelling narrative. The hip-hop culture in New York is frenetic and they captured it well in this piece. Nice post-production touches, too. Looks like a lot of time was spent on it. Way to go!

Nice doc. The correspondent stuck to the style too long with the female dancer, but otherwise great work.
-
I actually thought the camera work was too shakey- I like the idea of not always being stuck with a tripod, still shot, but sometimes it was moving so damn much it was sickening. Also- the video lighting seemed kind of dark, maybe lights can be used in the future? I had trouble seeing some of the dancers. That brings up another point- all the focus on style style, I want to see more dancing! The title kind of conflicts, making me think I'm going to see more about the lifestyle, (and not just about style). The background sound was sometimes really distracting too- anyway to eliminate this more in the future? Can't wait to see more from you

There are some great dance shots in here with cool effects that fit the piece very well.
Our host assumes all of us are familiar with hip hop, which I'm not, so I would have liked her to ask the dancers: Why hip hop? (as opposed to other dance) Then maybe that would give another dimension to their style, and help us the audience to understand better why they chose it.
Good job, i liked seeing a slice of New York culture. -
Okay am I the only one who couldn't see the video because it was too dark. I was interested in the content and I enjoyed listening to what they had to say, but I couldn't see the video.

Nice piece, well done .... greenlight !!!

good. I agree that too long on dancer number #1. After 3 minutes I was done, cut off 40 seconds, starting with dancer #1. Open montage about 12 seconds too long--could use those visuals elsewhere in the piece

This is a great piece. All around... but it's almost too slick for what I see Current. TV to be about. I could see this on MTV VH1 or any other cable/major network wanting to get "hip".
..It'sjust too good.... isn't that awful!?... sounds like those words that job seekers hate to hear... you're "overqualified".
I suppose it will get greenlighted even with my yellow light.
So congrats. -
I found the pod to be fuzzy and dark. The content itself is excellent, but the video editing could be much better. The sound comes through fine, but the quick speech of some of the people interviewed hinders understanding somewhat.
-
I liked alot 'bout this piece...howeva...the lighting was abit poor. And compression seemed off at times.
Great subject though...and decent content
Ya left me wantin' mo! -
Liked the pace of this very much. The editing is very good. Didn't care all that much for the content, but I thought it was put together well.
-
nah...the interviews were flat///////

Good content, camera angles (Dutch), on camera presence, and editing! Could have possibly used more ambient/available light for some of the darker scenes?
Over all, good job.

I thought the shooting and editing style was good. Dark worked for me. GreenLight!

I would have liked to see more concentration on the dancers, the moves what they mean and how long it took to actually learn some of them...
Include some breakdancing... hip hop is much more than what is here. Some of the scenes are dark too... needed to open up on the cam if you used available light. This story doesnt tell enough about "hip hop" dancing or historically... but it looks like tv candy and sometimes thats good enough!

We need more content. Music is hell to cut together properly but this piece plays like filler. It's catchy, it looks good, but it doesn't teach us anything.
-
Award winning. If it hasn't won an award then it should. This guy wins an award for just stepping on the sidewalk!

Another hit by Francisco

It's nice to see a Hip Hop pod/documentary that focuses on an element other than rapping, or emceeing. Great work! GL
