You don'tneed to be rich to surf. Thanks to a unique bodyboarding school, a notorious slum in Rio de Janeiro is turning out some superb young wave riders.

Hey Dean, Kewl...I love your work man! When are you coming back to da northshore? I've learned some mean new moves. You'll probablly want to shoot me for your next feature...maybe we should start a BB school for seniors!

Good story and some incredible footage. This makes we want to jump on a jet and head for Rio.

This was a nicely produced piece, the story was well told and held my interest throughout.

Great piece Dean. A window into their world. The school is truly a lifeline. Kids are great,(Which school is more important?)

    Muchos kudos, mi amigo.

I just saw "News From a Personal War" -- it's wonderful to see there are positive stories in the favelas too.

This piece shows how much potential this medium has to take specific stories from the diversity in this world and show the common thread of humanity. CurrentTV can be a powerfully uniting medium.

after seeing "city of god" this piece becomes more powerful. knowing what the kids are coming from and the nature of their life choices makes this short all the more richly positive. i saw "that's unfortunate" also and have found your straight-forward and organized style to be very effective with these pressing issues.

Great piece.. this is as real as it gets - trust me... I was born raised and lived 20 years in Rio de Janeiro.
    Congratulations.

I was brought to tears watching this piece. When one of the kids said that this school helps them to not be afraid - I was so touched. This is an amazing work, and I am so happy I got to see it. Thank you to the filmmaker for doing such an incredible job, and to the people who started and are maintaining this school. If only there were more ways for kids to spend their time that are as valuable and fun as this....

Sweet, sensuous, revealing and ultimately optimistic. This is the type of film Current TV was made for. It really brought this exotic, but sometimes harsh, corner of the world to life - in a wonderful way.

It will surely be the inspiration for my films.

What an inspirational piece. The contrast of the slum-surf existance is moving. Great job! It's a boost to my spirit when I see stories like this describing people who are truly trying to make the world a better place.

Excelent! Only one comments, get rid of the titles, don't need them. Just being nit-picky. Great work, keep doing it..!

    Dean,

Great piece. Your narrative could stand to be a bit more upbeat (don't forget, kids these days have short attention spans) and there was a bit too much room above people's heads during some interviews, but other than that I really liked it!
