Real talk from real people...I like it...need to see more!
-
Holy shizzle (exuse my "black" talk, mr. kayne), this is like the REAL barbershop. Good stuff. But I am sorta geting old of that "Real talk from real people" wreck.
Greenlight, good editing, -
I like the concept. I would like to see topics discussed that don't involve race. Issues that every person has to deal with.
GL -
Its always good to get the perspective of the real world's issues from people who live in it on a daily basis. A lot of real talk going on here.

I would watch this program if it came on TV.
-
I think that the topic was interesting. It made you think about the law within itself. We as people are still seperated from one another and it shouldn't have to be that way. Life is too short to live like that. I hope that more topics should be addressed in reguards to trying to bring people together, but in all it's hot!!!!! You got my green light. :)
-
I also have the same comment as Iceman, I would watch this program also if it came on TV. This clip looked very professional and the editing was excellent. The person who put this together knew what they were doing. Kudos!
Just give us some more topics to discuss. This balck and white thing is going out of style! -
The video was good and the audio is ok. It sounded a bit distant in parts. I really liked the intro a lot. Unfortnately the whole episode is ruined because the topic is garbage.
Whitey isn't out to get you. Stop making excuses and try asking some white folks for their view point next time you do something on race.Unless of course you are trying to direct public opinion and not get a well balanced discussion. Don't perpetuate ignorance it helps noone.-

Thanks for the compliments ShadowTodd.
To paraphrase our disclaimer seen at the head and foot of the piece, "These views and opinions do not reflect those of VIP Television, Inc."
No one person who shares their opinion in these pieces are affiliated with our show. We do have a series of Hot Seats in the can with a wide variety of topics to come.
Thanks again,

I really enjoyed the clip of VIP TV. It's really great to see hip hop being used as positive forum for discussing and presenting issues relavent to the black community. I think the show looks very professional and is definately ready to be on the air!

Great Piece VIP.
I've just signed up for Current and apparently my videos aren't posted yet. I like your style and your viewpoints. My father was mixed race so I grew up in a very hostile environment and wasn't accepted by either side. I learned to cope and built a successful business as a minority woman.
I'm very interested in sharing what I'm doing on www.TheInCrowdVlog.com with you and seeing if there is a possibility that we might collaborate on some segments. My work involves celebrity and media placement in Hollywood. If you have some ideas on how we can make the world a better place through working
together in peace and communication as human beings, I would welcome the opportunity to know and work with you.
Kindest Regards,
Cheryl Shuman

Nice work, good editing, I'm here in the Chi and would love to come out and shoot with you guys, drop me an email. Also a Barber one of the "BEST" and know all the shops that hold that social awareness talk on the West Side.

I enjoyed the piece but I think there are always to side to every story. Maybe get the perspective of white barber shop or a Asian barber shop talking about the same issues. I agree African Americans have it bad when it comes to the judical system but I have work in the correctional facilities where the population is nearly 50/50. So my recommendation; try to reflect diversity in your next piece because every culture has it own definition of bad. Green Light it I want to see more!
-
Thanks Mia,
I agree. And you are absolutely a saint for wanting diversity in programming, but It isn't squarely the duty of the individual to provide that diversity.
If good folks like yourself were to utilize Current TV and submit counter programming to this piece, then diversity would be the end result.
Diversity is a team sport.
Besides, I can't say I've come accross any Chinese Barber Shops :)
Thanks for the GreenLight.

I agree with the guy who made the point that beyond racism, there is classism. "Speak!"
The biggest injustice in America today is that the gap between the wealthy and poor is going the wrong way, yet in the last election, all people wanted to talk about was gay marriage, ketchup, and blow jobs.
PS - I get my hair cut at a Vietnamese barbershop and they watch soap operas. -
Well what an original idea. Get African American's fired up on the 'ol black white thing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that we still have work to do to get it right but I fail to see what sitting around on your butt all day and complaining is going to do to fix the problem. I believe only one guy said that he would go if called for jury duty. I don't doubt for one second that this type of conversation goes on. But it would be nice ,just once to hear about the fact that isn't it great that America is taking the steps to rub out racism completely from society. Unlike several other countries that not only have not taken any steps in that direction but still actively promote slavery. Sure it took to long for us to see that our constitution did in fact include people of all colors.but every color and every heritage has been discrimated against at some point in America's history. The African American people got the short end of the stick of that there is no doubt. Is the answer to sit around all day and complain? It wouldn't be my answer. When I see people discriminating against Christians I try to point it out and I try my best to work to get it changed. The same thing goes if I hear a racist coment about anyone. Speak up and let the person know that it just isn't approiate.
As far as the video quality and the editing goes I think you did a super job. -
Thanks Steve,
There's an interesting progression to your commentary. Nice arc to it.
Near the end you say, " Speak up and let the person know that it just isn't approiate."
It seems that these folks were doing just that in regards to those who still commit these crimes on humanity. The effort that America put into Institutionalized Racism profoundly overshadows Its Healing Efforts.
To draw a light parallel. Some of us in Chicago still complain and feel cheated to this day because the Chicago Bears Organization didn't string a few Super Bowls together with that 1985 squad. I mean we get a playoff appearance every now an then, but that doesn't prompt us to just shut up and forget about it.
So why wouldn't some folks still be upset and charged up about American Institutionalized Racism and the Lives, the Families and Futures it has claimed over the last 4 or 5 centuries.
I mean theres been plenty of progression over the last 50 years, but not enough to say folks should shut up and forget about it.
Thanks for the technical compliments.

. Thanks for the measured response to my rant. Just a couple of follow up's!
The next to last paragraph I think shows a bit of anger peeking through. If not anger than clearly a LARGE amount of passion. Passion is OK , Heck I have a few things I am passionate about. I'll share them with you some day if you like. I really hope you didn't read what I said and came away thinking I wrote that "people should shut up and forget about it". I mean come on cut me some slack, you know that's not where I was coming from. I would suggest that you , like me, know where a person is coming from by reading or listening to what they say.
So again I would just say that I for one see no gain for our problem of inbred racism (black and white) by complaining about a problem that America is addressing. YES it is being addressed in a snail pace, YES we should be better, but all I am asking for is a little credit be tossed into the mix when you go and stir up the pot. Again we acknowledged that we were wrong, how about the Sudan and other countries where it is going strong. Let's try to advance the ball each time we have it. Bitching to the quarterback for getting us into this mess isn't going to help :)
And again it was a delight to have a rational talk without being called something I am not.
Steve C
PS: The speaking up part, well that is when you see it happening before your eyes, not in a bitch session.
GO RED SOX -
Thanks Again Steve,
No worries, we're not angry. How angry could someone be if football is referenced when discussing human injustice? It was pure constructive response.
And yes, we look forward to you sharing a few of your passions with us in the form of a submission to Current TV.
In fairness to those guys in that shop though, it's overly reduced to classify that as a "bitch session."
You ask for slack, but how much credit do you extend when using the terms, "sitting around on your butt all day and complaining"?
That kinda credit don't help your FICO score.
Most of the guys speaking in that clip were at work earning a living when we dropped in and imposed that question onto them.
It's not giving much slack when you take a 5 minute peek at an irregular moment in someone's life and instantly characterize them in that manor.
One guy dismissed outward blame by saying, "Who is White Man?"
Another guy said, "People have to be responsible for their own actions."
Another gentleman dismissed race altogether
to speak upon "Financial Segregation."
Again, in fairness to those good folks that let us tape that day, their comments reflect that they have a lot more on their agendum than racism.
It seems we all are absorbed by our unique and selective reasonings.
How uneventful would conversations be if we were not?
In the case of the Sudan, there are some who prefer to have their own houses in order before they speak out against the neighbors.
And as far as speaking up when you see it before your eyes, well, there are those who are just more proactive than that.

This was really good. I gotta say that the sound suffers at points but you already know that... Trying to shoot this with a boom probably would've changed the environment and altered the way people acted on the camera -- so all & all... great job making it work with what you had!
