Bouldering is the gymnastic soul of rock climbing. For many it's a sport, a lifestyle, a passion and an obsession with challenge. Conquering a single climb, or as we call it a "problem", sometimes becomes a long-term, very personal endeavor which often requires persistence, strength, focus and a lot of patience.

  • Hey everyone...I know this isn't a storyteller's video. And I hope you can see it as a simple, energetic introduction to an amazing sport. I've dedicated a lot of my life in recent years just trying to successfully capture the vibe, emotions, dedication and passion of the climbing community- I figured a quickie would be more appealing to a non-climber...and hope all goes well, greenlights given, TV bound-

I'm a self taught filmmaker - never stop learning in my spare time - so creative comments and criticism are welcome. Thanks for taking a minute, or three, to watch!
  • It's got a good beat and I can dance to it. I'm going to give it a 9!

  • I've got a bunch of friends who are into this, and its interesting to see this guy go to work. I wish that the introduction was a bit clearer - maybe some title cards instead of just narration to explain what we're about to watch. Also, I found the radio noise element of the music to be really distracting - though it does balance out his great, loud 'yawps'.
  • I'm with SamanthaGrant on bringing a little more context to what we're seeing. It's especially important once you reveal that he's only a few feet off the ground -- we need to better understand that what's at stake transcends height. But I love the bold cutting and camera work -- so a GL from me.

One more thing: Didn't understand the FA V 11/12 titles -- some explanation there too (or am I missing something blatently obvious to everyone else)?
  • ok. i watched it 3 times because i thought it was awesome. you totally captured the vibe and emotion of this send. it made me want to start climbing right here in my room!! ha. well done!!

  • do you have to be a climber to think this rocks? i love the style, i love the energy. i am not a climber, but i can tell ivan is sweatin to the top. very intense. very cool. thanks for the sweet vid. PS FA is 'first ascent' right?
  • Really intense stuff. Visually I think you are right on the money. I think I agree with some of the earlier posts that it might need a little more clarity in the setup about who this person is and the magnitude of what he's doing. The stuff you say in the text description is great. That's all you would need. You may want to consider dropping that in as your setup narration rather than what you have.

  • Amazing. I agree with previous comments, but I also can see the power in letting the pictures tell the story. I watched this and had pits in my stomach wondering if this guy was going do it. I rooted for him! Intense. I loved this. GL.

  • Hey all! Thanks a ton for your criticisms and positive feedback alike! A new updated version is on its way. I tried to embrace all of your suggestions and re-edit without changing the overall vibe...Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy it ---stay tuned!
  • Awesome feel to the video. So glad to see that there's finally a vid about bouldering on this site. Hope to see it on the "big screen" one day soon. Nice going!

  • Good tunes. Nice camera angles. I especially like the 'air traffic controller' audio that plays primarily during the failed attempts. I'd like to hear Ivan (climber) talk about the location, how he found the site, and how he's built up to the first attempt. A recap of the moves and what was choking him up. Nice teaser, let's see another climb.

Ivan you're ripped! And a funny guy. Keep it real. Check out this interview with Ivan:

  • Well the new version is up..and I thank everyone who made suggestions..hope you came back to check it out.

And, to all the climbers that showed up in lights - thanks for your support. We'll see...
  • Alright..I have one last update going up.

I realize there alot of greenlights - and I also realize that many are from climbers who share the same visions as me, and are supporting the video. Keep it up!!! I'm grateful.

But, I also realize that the veteran people of the Current community can sometimes frown upon new voices just greenlighting anything their friends do...and, I agree 100%, which is why I have a second update going up. In this final update I've cleaned up the narration slightly to flow better, added a touch more info to make the video, and what's happening, very understandable and just tightened up the titling sequences.

This will be the final for sure.

Thanks...look for it after the weekend when the Current folks get back.
  • I know nothing about climbing, but this vid makes me want to get out there and start climbing. the vibe in intense and the video is sweet.

  • I want tell you how much I appreciated your comment on my documentary. And considering itÂ’s a poorly edited piece, I most definitely appreciate your ability to see beyond the incoherence, and really see the emotion and passion behind my footage. And although this piece will not be made for television; Current TV gave me the opportunity tell 500 or so people about my loss, which definitely helped me psychologically and that was enough for me man- now I can move on!!! Well moving on at least to the hustle and bustle of life- lol

  • This was a fascinating pod with great camera work and intensity! It blows my mind that someone can do that! I had friends who did this when I lived in Oregon and still think it's unbelieveable.
You are obvious a valuable part of the current community and I would like to ask you for some feedback on my latest movie and hopefully some support! Thanks!
