This is a re-mix of a public domain vintage film. The film "Despotism" is an educational film from 1946 that lays out the characteristics of a society headed toward despotism. The re-mix "Despotism 2005" points out through text and voice-overs the ways in which modern day American is exhibiting despotic tendencies.

  • I really like the idea of this but the execution is amateur. You need actual clips of Reilly, Santorum, etc, not their names written in large yellow letters. And you need a graph of the election stats, not just some faceless voiceover. I agree with your politics but this deserves better story telling.

  • Yes, i like the concept and you do have a story to tell. However i think that it needs to be a little more professional. Keep in the 1942 video though cause its a important piviot point to your story.

  • I agree with the first two comments made. You have a great start here. Some more visuals would help drive home the point.

  • I think the idea sucks and the 3 previous comments are also complete BS.
  • Good pod...really made me think
  • This has a lot of potential, and deserves the extra effort to make it work really well. Might be more effective if you intercut key clips of Limbo and O'Reilly, etc., instead of simple text overlays. If you want to keep it simple, just do video cuts of them, while the "Despotism" narration continues. If you want to expand it, include the sound from Rush et al; that gives opportunity for more editorial voice overs and explanation between clips. The sound cut for Santorum doesn't work, and isn't needed - the point is self-evident. This one is worth working on.
  • Excellent work. The only suggestion I would make is to improve some of the production. Perhaps cutaways on the text. The ideas are excellent and the juxtaposition of despotism to contempory american culture is thought provoking. Greenlit.

  • Very good thought provoking pod.

  • How does this not have more attention!!! This is wonderful, very funny, very relevant. I would love to see more using a similar format. There is something about using old footage to forecast our current status that gives an eerie sensation. I think this is very intelligent work. Green light from me. Good luck and keep them coming.
