Eighteen college teams competed to show the world (and the judges) that solar energy is a viable alternative to power our everyday lives. The Solar Decathlon teams built fully-functional houses on the National Mall to showcase their ideas about how to integrate solar power into everything from washing a load of laundry to making the drive to the grocery store. But even though the competition took place down the street from Congress, the government may not be the best option to bring solar energy into the mainstream.

  • Well done, this is something that needs to be seen on TV. I think it's funny how our government supports OIL as opposed to known renewable resources, like solar power. But then, we knew the president was an idiot and a liar, (WMDs?) before we "voted" him back in.

  • Good job on getting the information and various view points across. As well as with the editing. . .

  • Great piece, it is nice to see the Department of Energy is sponsoring events like this.

  • Well done and very relavent to our energy situation of today. It showed a lot a creativity and useful, practical solutions to today's problems. I was also impressed that you included sunsets, beach settings, etc. not just the "nuts and bolts" of solar energy. Excellent work.
  • I gave it a greenlight but maybe you could add music.
  • As I mentioned in Gristmill, this video definitely deserves the greenlight! Good job Ben.

  • Solar panels are prohibitively expensive because it's energy intensive to create the silicon. As the cost of energy increase so does the cost to create solar panels.

Unfortuantely, any alternative energy solution requires hydrocarbons.

But it's good to at least start a discussion.

    Greenlight it.
  • Great piece.

One person says drive must come from consumers, that good ole, supply and demand, will rule the day. Problem is, supply and demand, cannot work in the presence of monopoly.

  • Greenlight. Any information about renewable energy sources needs to get out to the public at large, since the media monopolies in this country treat it as a non issue.
  • Total greenlight. This is very relevant to the energy crisis we have at hand today - and gives a sense of hope.

  • I have been thinking of all different ways to solarize my house. I also think this is the way of the future. So keep up the good work . I also gave your show a green light . Good luck !

  • Awesome! I worry about the house going to New Orleans though as they don't appear to be hurricane proof.
  • great subject. looks good.
  • It makes me happy to see others making great
strides in pushing our generation foward!

  • Its a good piece, Very current..ha ha! ,Maybe a little tighter editing...before it hits the air..show it to a pro he'll know what to do.That pro is not me , by the way!
  • I really like this piece. Nice voiceover, sounds very professional. The only thing I would change would be the ending, maybe just wrap it up with a general quote about where solar energy is going.

  • Promote! Promote! Promote! Demand supply! As product margins increase cost decreases. duh. Instead of housing apartments that are goverment subsidized, why not create an economicle push from the consumer society and embrace alternative energy instead.

  • I agree with Enemy Combatant

Peak Oil is here, but we do need to do something though

  • Right-on for Solar Power! Great subject...because the renewable energies of solar, wind, and water power are the future.

    Power to the people!

    Thanks. Johnny
