Burning Man is an annual art festival and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.

  • That was awesome. I heard of this when I was watching Family Guy, and didn't think it was real. Turns out it is, and looks like the ultimate party celebrating art, and expression like you said. I am definately gonna get my friends to come to this with me one (year/day?).

  • FYI, I actually produced a pod called Welcome to Burning Man which is airing on Current right now. It can also be viewed online at:

link in order for any video shot at Burning Man to be legally aired on television, you not only need to have releases for everyone feratured in the video (Current's rules), but you also have to have official permission from Burning Man. To my knowledge, the only broadcast temas allowed official access this year were Current and the Discovery Channel. Even so, before putting Welcome to Burning Man on the air, I had to screen it for the higher ups in the organization. That's the deal they make you agree to in order to cover the event for TV.

  • I like your editing. Good job!
  • Overall great job. I liked the tribal sounds. Burning Man is on my list of things to do. I felt that you held back a bit. It would be interesting to see more of an ethnographic perspective, more interaction between people, how people adapt and what happens to their state of mind and ego.
  • That felt like hell on earth
  • pow. I love it.

great, but I would give it more thematic cuts & try to track the eye through the images from the center of attraction to the next... something to give a measure of the 'cohesive' experience I'm sure it is... it a maddenlying disassociative way that seems to typify descriptions of BurningMan.

I would re-edit to improve the impact of sensational images. I think you could get more depth.

  • I voted yes, before reading the comment regarding the consent required by the organization for this to possibly air on TV. So my vote is "yes", but only if the consent is given by all the required people. I'd pull this until then, it's a great video but unfair in what is essentially a competition to have something which doesn't comply with the rules outlined by current as well as burning man's organizers.

Great vid, though, I can't wait to have a year where I can afford to go to the burn. I know it's going to be a great experience for me!
  • Great montage, but it needs more "meat" behind it. Maybe adding a narration track could help.

  • So much to see! This is great! The audio level needs to be raised and equalized, and some information about the event or the clips wold be helpful. I totally hope to see this and others like it on Current! GL!
