The Queensbridge Wind Power Project presents a vision of a future when meeting energy production needs can actually enhance the beauty of a city. Queens generates half of New York City's energy, and The Queensbridge Wind Power Project investigates how clean, renewable wind power might be integrated into the landmark architecture of the Queensboro Bridge. This project is designed to engage the community in a dialogue about the potential of wind and other alternative energies in an urban setting.

A short (7 minute) video shows the origin of the project and includes interviews with Climate Scientist Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig on the effects of global warming on the New York region and Technical Designer Markus Maurette on the creation of a computer model of the bridge fitted with various wind turbine designs.

  • I love the idea and I love progressive environmentalism, too. The documentary is well done, which makes the subject matter all the more interesting.

I could see a slightly shorter version of this show on Current. I might as well say that my family and I live here in NYC so I hope this project comes to fruition! Greenlight.
  • I love it. I work at an online environmental news magazine and I haven't heard of this project. Greenlight it!

P.S. You might want to tag your video with relevant terms like "environment" and "wind".

  • How large are these windmills? Judging by their relative scale in the video clip, they look quite smal. What's their rated output?
Sorry to rain on your parade, but being pro the environment doesn't mean we have to lose our sense of perspective.
  • Great thinking.
We are also involved with "Wind" Energy as well as Alternative fuels but finding it difficult to capture the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of investors and people interested in helping to move it all forward; mostly because so much of our process is based on R&D; at least for our Wind projects which are Vertical Access systems.
If anyone has an interest and would like to know a little more I’d be happy to share some of what we are doing and what our goals are.
We have ideas related to our large cities as well as ways to help the small rural communities across our Nation. It could be a lot of fun to be a part of it somehow if you have the desire.
We look forward to seeing more of your project going forward and would be happy to help in any way we can as well.

  • Great piece, great video. Way too long.

Some of the interviews were not needed (for me). Love the architect, the Eco lady was a bit redundant. Like her at 5:20, not at 2:58. 4:30.

    Air this one.
  • Great idea. Hope the project suceeds. I would be interested in the amount of energy the mills would supply. The audio is not loud enough. Don't know weather it's my computer or not but other video loudness are fine.

  • Shorter would be a little better, but GREAT GREAT piece. Very important topic. Air it!!

  • too long.
    strip redundancy,
find a longer piece of music for your bed.
be more careful about smooth fades and timing when editing together eco lady.

Over all fantastic production values though.
This looks like a video made to find donors/funding. Was it?

  • I think that this is a important issue. I loved the models of the bridge. I think that it would be a great idea. I think this video is perfect the way it is and should be aired! Keep up the great work!

  • We're building an international bridge here in Buffalo and wish the planners had taken something like this into consideration. The problem isn't that it might not work due to engineering issues, but that forward thinking environmental ideas such as this aren't even a consideration for most projects.

Greenlit it for the subject matter.

  • I like the idea but get to the point, this piece is way too long.
  • Green lit! Great video that resonates Bucky's message of utilizing the ever-present energy income of the environment rather than the earth's saving account. Here's to the New Aeon. Great job!
  • Very good! I love the video. Very informative and it needs to get out there more!

I used to live in Queens, and it is so true about Queens having so many towers that lets out carbon dioxide. It makes the city and Queens look ugly and unhealth. That is what we breathe everyday and that is bad.

Hopefully the Queenboro Bridge Wind project will happen because there definitely needs to be a cut down on the carbon dioxide in the city.

    Overall the video was great!

  • keep it up. I hope you do well
  • I would love to see this project happen. This piece was really well done, but I agree with some of the other comments that it could be shortend down a little bit...not too much, since most of what is said is important, but there are a few moments where it seems to be repeating itself.

  • This was really neat, Great story. I loved how they made the turbines architecturally pleasing as well as functional. My city has built a wind farm a little outside the town, but it not pretty. Some people complained to a local newspaper about them saying very ignorant things about them. Such as, "I sure have noticed since they built that wind farm it has been a lot more windy around here." People need to be informed what these turbines do some of the elderly think we are trying to make wind with them. This is a great video. Well done.
  • great-- green building is the most profitable and logical way for construction to be done.everyone interested should read the book cradle to cradle. we have to change the fundamental way we look at design...

  • I'm surprised this didn't make it to television(yet). GL. It could be made considerably shorter I guess. Then it would be even more powerful and interesting.
  • I realize I'm getting to this pod extremely late, but I think it's wonderful and definitely deserves to be on TV. It could use a bit of a cutdown, but I think it's a great piece. GL, albeit a late GL, from me.
  • Great lets do it! GL
  • Seriously, what's the hold up? Why can't we do this?

    GL!
  • The information is great. I live in Queens and was very interested with the topic, but it is way too long for the amount of information you convey. It really should be cut down by a significant amount.
  • Very good! GL
  • #GL: Green City projects are a must have.
  • Great POD altogether. It'd be great to put some turbines on that thing! GL!!

  • this is a cool story put together with some beautiful shots.
  • I really enjoy pods discussing 'green' ideas. I really enjoy the commentary by the Climate Scientist. I like the discussion of the role aesthetics play in development and design in relation to efficiency and productivity. The choices of looking at bridge blueprints in 3D were a great decision.

Excellent work, look forward to more!

Please check out my first vid launch, We Create! Thank you.

  • Awesome....
This would have been on tv by this point I think if it were in environment.

I do think it is a bit long 6 min.. or so would be great.
    anywho...GL

could you check out my newest pod (B-Green)

    thank you

  • Excellent. I defer to the other posters that it might be a tad long.
  • muito bom!!

  • I love every aspect of this video. It is great to see creativity explore sustainable energy. This is a huge industry (sustainable energy) that we have only brushed the surface with. Everyone in this video is very well spoken on the subject. Thanks for this.... it needs to be on TV!!!!! Please take a look at my pod on Solar Energy > link

  • This was a great pod. Visually engaging and well edited to keep it moving. Content is relevant and certainly in the realm of what is needed. Great interviews… total package.

This should be plucked from the list. Straight to TV.

  • Nice Jjob. Good subject. GL
  • very informative and interesting pod - good luck!
  • I wish they would do that to the SF Bay Bridge. ! Greened it.

  • I love this pod because it get's people thinking about their urban landscape and how it can be enhance by alternative energy ideas. You've got my green.

I used to live in NYC and those ugly smoke stacks over by the Queensborough bridge were quite a familiar site.
    Plisko
  • I think its a great idea and a huge step towards the importance of alternative energy. The film was very well done and informative with great interviews. Keep up the good work.
  • Awesome idea...I wish I could come up with ideas like this...Great Job!
  • Nice informative pod. Please stop those smokestacks in Queens. I opt for the wind energy any day. Green light!
