Who would have thought surviving Hurricane Katrina would've been the easy part? Join me, as I chronicle one family, Hip Hop activist's from New Orleans, as they journey from a 9th ward attic surrounded by diseased water for 3 days, to rhyming for millions on BET's "Save Ourselves Telethon" IN N.Y.C., to attempting to adapt within the bureacratic labryinth of FEMA, as well as finding a place under 800 dollars in one of the most expensive cities in the world. All that and more, in Jeremiah Alexis' "Hip Hopenstance vs. kaFEMA" I pray you enjoy...

  • Jeremiah, good work, good soul. God bless you. Peace, JOHN J. TRAUSE
  • ...nobody knows the trouble you endured to produce this piece!!

The journey was long and seemed at times, insurmountable.., but with great art comes great struggle and I know that this is divinely appointed to have it's impact, in HIS TIME and will certainly become a catalyst for real Justice for these evacuees of New Orleans, now 'victims' of FEMA. Onward righteous soldier(s). ~~BD of www.EdenDustMedia.com

  • This is a phenomenal family whose story represents the story of millions of American citizens STILL currently trying to stabilize their lives after the Katrina disaster.

I urge all that view this video to send their love, strength and endurance to Mama Nabii, Baba Joey, Jaha and Yosef and the millions across the country like them.

We must not rest until they all can say, "I'm going home."

  • Hotep, Nabii & family!

Well done! Heavy, yet direct! Incredible flooding footage!!!

That FEMA interview was very enlightening. I can't believe that NYC refuse to honor the FEMA vouchers! But, somehow it isn't hard to believe.

Keep your headz up, keep working and keep rocking the mic!

    Ya'll on point!

  • Jeremiah: Nice work, buddy. The spirit of the piece captures exactly what needs to be said in the media but isn't being said. Gotta keep in their face to make sure this doesn't just blow away! The Katrina incident didn't go down right and now even more semantics are being put in place for the gentrification of the region. This story is yet to be fully unfold.

Thanks for your input for my piece, "Second Line Club."
  • Watz GoOd Jeremiah,

I think your documentary is more than ready for TV. You've captured the heart and emotion of talented individuals (Americans) that deserve to have their story told. They need help and should get it from a country that claims to be GoOd (remember American government...in God We Trust!), did U think Ur bluff wasn’t going to be called at some point? This piece shows, yet again that U can't trust anyone's words, but only their actions. The world is filled with people who are imperfect because of their perception of Life, so it doesn't matter if they’re in the government, the church, family, friends, etc.. Never put all your faith in a person or a system created by people, unless their actions align with their words.

2005 was a horrible year for many because of so called “unusual weather”, but it’s only going to get worst. Why? Pain helps bring clarity and the thing that needs to be clear in society today is the fact that many world leaders in government, religions and other organizations pretend to be for the people, but really are not. If today’s leaders, or at least the ones with the power to change, were “real” this documentary wouldn’t have to be made. All the resources have be placed here to create Heaven or Hell on earth. Hellish actions will always produce hellish experiences...even in nature (all connected). Blind faith throws off the balance of all GoOd things created in humanity’s existence.

People are being set up to be force to go all the way inside themselves and find an inner strength that has been suppressed in the subconscious mind for ages. Every person has their own personal "Da Vinci Code" to crack, but misplaced faith and trust will never allow them to break the seals of their "National Treasure"...correction, "Universal Treasure". Those leading the world down a destructive end have to be flushed out and exposed for all to see. The undeniable “Truth” has to be clear to have a strong and GoOd society and it starts with those that want to lead others.

My heart truly goes out to the victims of humanity’s imbalances. I know they can find the comfort they need within, if they don't get stuck on the small breadcrumbs (puzzle pieces) out side of them meant to lead them inside.

Jeremiah thank U for giving these indivdiuals the platform to show how another’s choices high up effect those not in the seat of world power.

  • Fam,
Its shocking that NY decided not to support FEMAs efforts. Living here I can see that most people think that if you survived the flood then everything is fine. I know my life has changed because of Katrina and my family members trying to get a grip on not just the natural disaster and man made flood, but the social disaster that is Americas reaction to the suffering of its citizens.

  • Alafia Family,
Many thanks for sharing your story. Many thanks to the brother, Jeremiah, for his creative expression. May our Ancestors be pleased with your works, and may their light continue to guide us in the Struggle. It's movement time, Fam! I am also a resident of New Orleans 9th ward, so it's important we keep this fire burning. What happened in N.O is a paradigm for all of the world. We (afrikans) must continue forward in the spirit of Umoja. Keep up the good work, brother. Mama Nabii, my Jaha, my Yo, Baba, and bro. Safari...I'm wit you all the way!!!

  • thank you Jeremiah..
for giving th victims of this disaster a platform to be seen and heard. ..
again a rich tapestry of deception is unfolding..
i am horrified by th leisure with which th country has responded, despite th on going sufference that is evident in th 'land of hope and opportunity'..
i have witnessed unconcealed prejudice before, it never softens th blow or enlightens me to th crime..
i wish you a voice loud and strong with your project, and send prayers of love and stability to those still suffering.

  • "There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies on the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" -Mario Savio

  • okay. I know ya'll are gonna hate me. I am from New Orleans and lived across the lake for Katrina, but I gotta ask: Being that NYC is one of the most expensive places to live, why did you not take the ticket from BET and fly somewhere else that was less expensive to live? Not to mention the overwhelming odds of "making it" in NYC as a relative unknown. It seems an unwise decision. Please don't hate.

  • Good job, young buck. Somethings need to be said and seen. I was amazed but not surprised by what I saw during that storm. If you didn't see anything else, I hope that you saw that we have to take care of each other, cause our government don't give a fuck about us.Just like Paul Mooney says, they have fucked us up!, and to further that thought, they continue to do so. Peace
  • Real Hot. Man! I feel that. The N.O. lives on in the survivors!

  • This piece deserves to be broadcast absolutely! - good work. Love the hip-hop family.

People/musicians from NO need more help, the situation there is still bad.

We held a muscians benefit here in Rhode Island to try to help in a small way.
Hope you get even more exposure with this.

  • Hi
This piece looked cool but there was a huge buffering problem with the audio & I couldn't really appreciate it. Will chcke it out again later.
  • I hope things are better for this intelligent, articulate family. Come home, if you can. It's really better here, even in the muck.. we all know what we're all going thru, doin it together. Great piece! thanks

  • This is a great piece. I hope that the family is doing well since this piece was shot. I just left NYC and compared to New Orleans, the cost of living is like night and day. Charlotte, NC is noted as the best city for African Americans in terms of progress. This piece was tight because you put faces and feelings with the tragedy that these strong people have to continuously endure starting with the hurricane.
