Young people have been leading the democratic and independence movement in Lebanon since former prime minister Rafik Hariri and 22 others were killed in a massive car bomb in Beirut on February 14 of this year. That bombing, and the popular uprising that followed, have led to dramatic changes in the country. Syrian troops have withdrawn, the security regime has been shaken up, and there have been all sorts of political changes. All that has also been accompanied by a string of unsolved bombings that have largely targeted journalists and politicians. After the recent killing of popular journalist and recently-elected member of parliament Gibran Tueni, we went out to the streets of Beirut to talk to some young people about the current situation, and the role they think young people should play in the future of their country. Great work you guys! You have done an amazing job investigating the topic and editing the footage...
- Best wishes to you all!! genevieve -
What's happening in Lebanon is a really important story and I think you did a good job of capturing the spirit of young people there.
And isn't Beirut one of the most beautiful cities in the world? -
I was in Germany when CNN broadcast news about the murder of Gibran Tueni. CNN also broadcast, live, the surprising announcement that German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis would step down from his role as leader of the investigation of Rafik Hariri's assassination. Apparently it just became too difficult to investigate the case, the German had been subject to numerous death threats, before and after he interviewed Gibran Tueni about the Hariri case. A prime minister murdered, a leading voice silenced, and an investigation stalled. Against a backdrop of violence and political crime like that, it's impressive how articulate, proud, and optimistic you show the Lebanese youth are. I want CNN to broadcast this part of the story too. I give you a greenlight, Dave & Co.

Although the story is interesting, it doesn't provide enough background to the struggle currently within Lebanon. I also thought that there was too much talk and not enough dramatic visual appeal (i.e, struggles, governmental forces, conflicts). Who is causing the problems? Who are the opponents? Is there a compromise between forces? What is the opinion on the other side?
