"Survivor-The Real Deal" revolves around the residents of low-income "Bayside," Mississippi, whose lives have just been overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina. The story revolves around "Johnny" and "Beverly," the bedrock of this Waveland suburb who following the storm opened their small grocery store to provide free food and water to area residents and must now fight both the Hancock County Board of Supervisors and FEMA's attempts to shut down their relief site; "Bear," a married father of three young daughters and former Navy Seabee whose body shop business he ran out of his home is now destroyed by black mold that makes his home uninhabitable; "Klaus," a Dutch sailor with a shady past who now calls the Mississippi Gulf Coast home; and "Peabody," a garrulous free-spirit from New Orleans who both prepares cauldrons of turkey & chicken gumbo while providing an overview of the Bayside community.

  • JD,

I would definately like to see the full story you filmed on this trip.

The message of the difficulties outside of New Orleans needs to be shared.

Where can I view a complete copy of your journey?
  • can't wait for the theatrical release. very nice work. heartfelt and true.

  • Good essential footage, which promises a substantial feature. The actual relationship of the citizens with the military...the intervention into our lives, is suggestive of the relationship the military may have overseas (not just Irag).
I mean, how they treat us maybe how they treat others.
Also, the personal stories are always the best source. I would like to see more footage of devastation, have quotations on some stastitics (I know, lies!!), oral or by uploads, music to bring out my sentiments, while listening to the authentic, regional voices express their relationship with the government.

  • As I already have SEVERAL hours of footage, I have plans to turn this into a feature-length doc following these people's lives over the course of 6-12 months Thanks for the comments and please continue making them because I want feedback on what more I should shoot and include in the editing process.
