Will an Mp3 player destroy your hearing? If so, are the manufacturers liable?
This is an independent, investigative report, that uses science and technology to answer the question...
"Listen to Hear" confronts these accusations concerning the dangers in the decibel levels of Mp3 players and portable devices. We visit an Audiologist, and test for the exact decibel level in top selling Mp3 players, the Sony PSP, and the Nintendo DS. We also interview a lawyer concerning the legalities and liabilities. This is not an "iPod is bad story." This piece uses science and technology to document how long, and how loud you can listen to these devices until permanent hearing loss occurs. What liabilities and/or legalities do manufacturers have to tell people of potential dangers? NOTMTV.TV is releasing this investigation to inform our viewers of the realization. These devices, which are being used by millions of people every day, could be taking away what they're giving you...your love of music.

Great spot man. The only thing is the volume went out at about 8 min:31sec. I would love to hear the rest of it.
-
Good Stuff, and with very good timing! This is what Current.tv is all about.
-
Very well done...and some outstanding camera work, I might add.
-
You can watch/ download the report at NOTMTV. I intend on removing the Links when the audio is fixed. Thanks

Too packaged. Too much on camera monologue at the head, with nothing to look at, CU of ipods or something. Give us some images. Loose the "security camera" bit.

Hi Tom,

Very good subject. good material. investigation well done. If I had one criticism it would be that the rythme of this piece is a bit slow, too much inertia in this video, bu overall I like it and would like to see more on different subjects. Green!

good stuff cuz.

Great exploration of an imp consumer issue. I liked the explanation of the audiology gear, the comparison to Nintendo, and the Frenchies stickin' it to the American Man.
I've always wondered... is the IPod any worse for your ears than the Walkman that the Gen Xers cranked up before us?
But it's a little on the long side. Cut some of the lawyer's bites and putting the info in copy -- your trax -- to make the piece move faster. And lose the first minute or so.
Good sources make for a sweet issue-oriented piece. -
"I could not hear this pod verry well" haha This is a well organized pod "GL" looking forward to looking for it on the tele.

Check your pronunciation of "audiologist".

I don't believe that society (or governments) has to take a paternalistic approach to anything that it may harm us. That is why we are 1) adults and 2) thinking adults. No one is forcing anyone to listen to music or anything at dangerous levels, if you do is your responsibility, plus there is plenty of info on sound pollution around. So, I dont agree with the controversy. However the piece is well put together, a bit long, a bit CNNish and informative for some people living in Idaho.

Good job....no one warned me about noise damage. I just paid
around $3,600 for a hearing aid... & i'm just a youngster still! yikes. -
Overall very good. Like some of the previous posters.. feels a little slow, shorten and definitely loose the "security camera" , i.e. black and white clips. I'd really like to know why you used that.
The content and subject matter is very relevant and interesting. -
It's good content, you need to be more brutal with your edits. The opening is WAY too long and the cutaway to the B&W camera while clever, doesn't work for me visually. Usually those sort of "off camera" cutaway shots are handheld (or have some motion), and yours is on a tripod obviously (or a shelf) with no one manning it it looks to me. Also, your close is long, I'd chop it up a bit more, and cover some of your talking-head shots with b-roll of still images or video that goes with what you are talking about. Lose the plug for your website in the video and just put a slate at the end "for more info visit: notmtv.com". The After Effects (Motion Live?) graphics are pretty good. Oh yeah, this ran for 10:23, and your time on the title says 9:17. If you could get this chopped down to 5 mins it'd be a very good piece, less is more. -zenbeer

What about limiting all the other dangerous noise levels.
