Welcome to Paris. Scenic views. Great wine. Rioting students.

Join Paris native Jean-Luc Bias as he gives you a personal guided tour through the thick of the student riot of March 16th, 2006.

After the savage suburban race riots of November 2005, French Prime Minister Vellipin had devised a new law to help unemployed youths. Subverting the usually strict French employment laws, this CPE (First Employment Contract) bill would allow employers greater flexibility with their hiring. It would also allow an employer a two year window, in which they could fire these new employees without having to give any sort of justification.

Students across France were not happy. For over 2 months, protests had become daily events, vandalism was rampant, and strikes were increasingly common. The students were soon joined by disaffected youths from the suburbs, as Paris seemed to being slowly spinning out of control. The government has just recently repealed the law.

• Really interesting although it seems like that guy Luc wasnt even worried....I have never seen any protest footage from the NYC war protests but i bet that would be very comparable.
• I don't think there is an overall story. It's a good clip of being near and almost IN a riot. It's a story about. I like the end because it says this may be the beginning of a story.

• Very imporant.

• I agree with Lizzie. It's the experience of the moment being so close to what's happening that makes it interesting.

• How has this hung around for a month already? It's called Current, let's get it out there...
• love the fast cutting intro and the shots of paris. You did a good job of merging chaos with order. Greenlight!
• looks great. i like the editing.
• Very cool intro. Hooks you right from the start. Riviting video. I think this should definetly be on air. What a story, you captured it well. Good editing. Greenlight!
• I got a little adrenaline rush. But it did appear to be staged, were those actors? Just kidding.

The broken english really works on this one. ;)

• What's next? Something like this happened in France during the 1700,s called the French Reveloution,And history proves it caused only death and destruction,As for the film I thought it was done very well and it brings to light the direction this world is headed,it's almost as if time has jumped back to the late 60's early 70's and where did that get us? Nice peice if work!!
• I loved this...it really takes you into a real protest... Very interesting. I'm glad there was no music or any crazy effects. Simple....it kept to the point...

• Nice to get a first-hand account of what happened. Seemed fairly undercovered here.
• Well done and just a great overall piece. Anything with amazing social relevance gets a greenlight from me. This one definitely fits within that context. Good journalistic piece that should make air.

• I think this pod shows very accurately what it is like to be in a protest. It's interesting to see an insider's view of one of the student protests in Paris. good work.
• Excellent pod on a very interesting topic. I think this probably fits more under "international" rather than "travel". Great job of pulling in the viewer and capturing the atmosphere of the moment. Greenlight!
• I liked how you where inside! That was awesome.
• cool, liked the inside look at what they are doing. GL
• I like this because it gives us a totally different view of the riots than what we saw on our tv news. The news seemed to villify the youth for their destruction, this gives us a little more of their perspective. GL

• I really agree with MissyG. Everything we saw in the news media was from outside of the rioting and there was a definitely some distance. Way to get us right in the middle of everything!
• i 2 liked the inside look...simple yet exciting.

• Why aren't we doing this everyday in every US city to protest the illegal war?
• I like the fact you made a pod on the riots, but there is no analyse. The people who put the cars on fire and vandalized stores weren't students. The ones who did that are the ones who do nothing of their life and provoke chaos. It would have been good to point this out.
