  • I work with students 6-12th grade this is a problem...great video..It needs to go on air.
  • I know a few friends who battle similar problems, and I have tried to find some way at reaching behind it. There seems to be an obvious level of obsession, and the current cultural trends had placed this heavy weight on how girls and women believe they should look. If a guy stops to look at a Victoria's Secret commercial, some girls and women feel they will not be complete unless they can measure themselves by those standards. Trying to reassure them otherwise becomes difficult when television places an emphasis on beauty above all else.

  • No matter how many times this issue is addressed, it's never enough.

This piece did need something. Perhaps more imagery. The media bombards, almost violently, America with portrayals of skinniness. I found the technique you used to address this too gentle to really come across effectively. I know how difficult it is to find interviews, but it probably needed at least one other survivor or even someone struggling with it now.

Technically speaking, the audio cuts off a couple of times. Maybe a couple of 2 to 4 frame cross fades would solve these problems. Also, you may want to consider diversifying the music loops, they become a bit hypnotic.

But nonetheless, great work on taking on such a tough issue. I know how hard it can be to fight heavy handedness without losing impact.

  • What a very moving and beautiful film. This disease is so much more widespread than most people know. More people need to be aware of this issue..and the video: very effective with the images, pictures and hypnotic music just made the whole package. Beautiful.
  • Really nice work, good job bringing to light an unfortunately persistent topic with class and without too many dramatics. Good luck getting it on the air!

  • i myself has suffered with an eating disorder for a number of years. it's a constant struggle still. what was said by the girl interviewed really hit home. not only is it a body image problem, but way more about control. you did an excellent job bringing both issues to light. thank you!

  • All young women need to see this and young men too, because it does effect boys as well. Bravo to Emily. I hope this makes it on air.
  • Very powerful and important message, and a compelling message giver. If needed it should be simple to cut a minute or two from the Doctor's comments. Cheers on the GL.
  • Thank you for tackling this subject. Although 'anorexia' and 'bulemia' are eating disorders in their extreme form, I would go so far as to suggest that most women in western societies suffer from an eating disorder. A disassociation with their bodies as a result of wanting to personify our cultural ideal of perfection. I think you've scratched the surface.
Would love to see more of this.

  • Good subject, although felt a little detached.

  • Strong content. Solid stats and facts.

I would have liked to see more photos of Emily when she was anorexic / bulemic to contrast with her current appearance (before and after).

Other thing is that maybe there is a bit too much of the talking heads. More B-roll if possible?

Greenlight. Many, many people need to be educated about this.

  • A subject that needs to be shared with the public, needs to be edited better, more B-roll, shots could have been more interesting: ECU, CU. Photos look dark and low quality. It's hard to make talking heads look interesting, but I'm afraid that in this age of instant gratification you need to keep the viewer visually entertained to keep their attention. Music is competing with narration. Not quite ready for air. Don't give up though... try another edit, maybe re-shoot with Close-Ups and Extreme Close-Ups.

  • What a touching and heartfelt video. This is one of those underlying issues that no one talks about but millions of people suffer from. We should thank the counselors for their hard work and commend the former sufferers for sharing their story with us. I would be very dissapointed if this was not put on air. It's very well done, thank you for this beautiful piece.

  • powerful, moving, emotional, heart-felt. Well done. Loved it.
  • Thanks for taking time to try to educate about this. Everyone is touched differently, and helped differently. I'm not an excellent film critic, but I am a survivor. The content is great, and it is well put together. I wanted to see some the peoples faces whose bodies we saw. People with these disorders hold a severe privacy and sadness and it is very telling in their faces. Also a powerful tool to show that it ISN'T the way to go to become 'better' or 'prettier'.
Thanks - Thank you - thank you

  • I just intro'ed this pod, i'm glad that you are addressing this issue, since it is not covered in the media from a personal stand point enough. we see lots of coverage on the general subject but the personal testimony puts a face to the name.
i agree from a producing stand point to mix up the broll a bit more, and pics of before after would be nice too.
    all the best!
  • Very emotional and touching story. It remindes me of when i was diagnosed with anorexia nerversa. I have a friend who has anorexia nervorsa and is extremely bad. I feel for her so much as we have been friends ever since we were 3 yrs old. It would be great if you could put up more interviews of depression and anorexia. I give this clip a 10/10. This clip brought me to tears. Whoever views this message, please pray for my friend Deanna for i fear that she may commit suicide again and may end up dying.
  • Breath- taking segement

  • is absolutely emotional...and it really says the truth about the disease...i think alot of people need to be informed more about the subject....thanks for doing the video
  • A newer version will be airing on Current TV. In the new version there will be much more B-roll and better music. I got many more pictures that will help to tell Emily's story. Thanks for all your feedback and greenlights. And thanks to Current for giving us a platform to educate and inspire through our films.
