Where do ringtones come from? From a warehouse in downtown San Francisco, that's where. Oh, and Japan. The music nerds at SF's Moderati have ring-interpereted everything from pop hits to cult classics to bodily functions. But watch out, here comes the artless MP3 download, threatening to retire these Ringtone Masters into Atari-like obscurity. Does that totally suck, or just make old-school ringtones even cooler?

I didn't know the Bay Area and ringtones had ANYTHING In common! I feel more informed! Way to go J!!!

Yeah Jiggy... A sweet little pod on Current... An inside look on an industry I never even knew existed. Next up you'll get yourself an Emmy...

You got the steez for this documentarian business, sir! Neatly packaged, informative, hitting the major players, a little human interest...it's tight. Better than Oakland Raider Parking Lot, your finest work? Hard to say!

Nice Work. Tight, funny, great.

Fascinating work! I particularly like the nonplussed assessment from the Japanese ringtone master. One thing: the ringing sound over the first shot of the vintage telephone is obviously NOT an analog metal clapper hitting a metal bell--it would be nice to hear the comparison between the simulation and the real thing.

I love the ringtone master! And that funky old rotary phone is the bomb. Where did you find it? Awesome piece. Totally sweet.
-
love your "I'd rather be napping but since i'm awake...I found this cool story" tracking style

Hey, is this an ad or what is Current coming to???? Peter Rabbit
-
This was very interesting ! :)

Well covered - the story is told with true professionalism. The subject is culturally relevant and current. It's a topic that garners interest from the millions of ring-toners. Great choice, well done.
Take the time to make sure your sound is right on location - those technical considerations are what separate the pros from the cons.
I gotta get me a phat ringtone.
Greenlight.

I have "Crazy Chicken" on my phone :)
Make it shorter though. And the voice over would serve the pod better if I was faster/more dynamic. Make it like 2 mintes max. -
Well done piece! I love his "Steven Wright-esqe" voice. (Will anyone on this site know who he is?) As a 33 year old I'm just sitting on the sidelines watching all the younguns go crazy about their ringtones and MP3s.

WELL DONE. Really interesting subject done with a simple, but stylistic approach. You get my green.
-
intresting piece. the "Ringtone masters" said they could not be replaced because they make a ringtone that sounds like an old telephone, just make an mp3 of the real sounding phone! ha "Ringtone masters" you have officialy been replaced! you get a "GL"
