  • Nice topic and subject, but I just think it is too long. The time spent with the first guy in the office is a bit long, especially since it is toward the start. But otherwise... a really meaningful piece.

  • Great story! Well shot.Nice music. Technically speaking, I agree with Springer, I think you could tighten it up a bit, but over all it is very interesting and informative. Good work!
  • WoW! Super sharp. Well timed. Informative.

How many of them are you? Do you all sleep?

Very impressive once again. It's great to see your work; can't wait to see more.

  • The simplicity of this piece is impressive. Love the shooting style. Could be somewhat tighter, as those before me have said, but that's an easy fix.

A real, intimate portrait of a man taking action. This piece has a ton of heart and is the strongest immigration piece I've seen on Current to date.

    Greencard.

  • Beautiful framing of shots....
  • idiotwork,

We are a three man team - we all create, direct, shoot, and edit. One of us will come up with an idea and basically coordinate and direct. We share shooting and editing tasks, sometimes equally, sometimes unequally. Most of these pods were shot with the Panasonic dvx-100 in 24P mode. Some were shot with single chip cams and "Eviction" was shot with the XL-1 in frame mode. Everything was cut with FCP.

The goal with any short, specifically for these pods, is shoot one day, then edit over 2 or 3 days, depending on how intense we go with the edit. Sometimes it's best to rough cut, let things marinate over a few days, then go back and fine cut, add titles, clean sound, effects, color correct, etc.

With that said, our "tribeca" short was a 2 day shoot with a few hours of b-roll shooting on a 3rd day. We spent about 16 hours shooting, grabbing close to 5 hours of footage. We cut for three days straight, cleaned up on a fourth day, then uploaded a 6 minute version which eventually became a 6:36 on air version. This is just one example of our work flow. One other aspect of putting these pieces together is the paperwork. Generally speaking, we go for a story that will require few releases, location and personal. Back to the "tribeca" piece (it was our most complex to date), on this piece there was considerable leg work in personal releases, permission for access to events, and some pain in the butt location releases from huge entities. But between the three of us, we always find a way to get it done.

I'm glad you enjoy the work and recognize the efforts. Hope this post gives you some insight.

  • Hey Tom,
When I upload to Current I do it exactly like the say to do it (mpeg 4 video, 320x240, applelosses, ect), Except, in order to get a decent res. I always make the kilo-byes per sec. restricted to between 1500 to 2000, not 90 like the website demo instructs. You just can't get a decent res. at 90, I've tried. By doing this you will get a larger file and it might take a little longer to upload, but I think it's worth it. It takes me 30 or 40 min. to upload, but it usually works. By the time it gets to the site it loses more res so I like to start with a lot. Hope this was helpful.

  • I want to see a whole film on Father Piedra -- I just saw Demme's Cousin Bobby and this made me think of that film - this would be a great feature. You guys are really out there getting great stuff!

    Best,

  • I see your work as the equivalent of the police who were at the illegal immigrant rallies recently and didn't start deporting them. This "priest" is part of the problem and rather than expose him for supporting criminals you tried to distort reality and portray him in a good way?! Anyone who harbors or helps criminals in any way is themselves a criminal.

This pod was extremely disgraceful and I hope there are no gullible people who think of him as good based on your film. The description needs to be edited to include the word ILLEGAL right before IMMIGRANTS so the truth is easily known.
