  • Interesting concept. Loved to hear from the libraries presepctive on the whys and what their target audiences are. And more importantly, since TV is a visual media we need to see the library, the books, more people etc IMO

  • I like the concept.. i think that it is missing something... more comments... like from the audiance the faculty and other band members. But it seems like its a great idea. Are the bands songs revolved around reading???

  • First things first: I HATE the title -- provokes the same reaction from me that "Broccoli Rocks!" or "Dick Cheney Rocks!" would. How about "The Loudest Thing in the Library" instead?

    Aside from that, I like the piece, the group, and their spokesman. I think you could add more footage of the audience watching them, and give a better indication of the setting (in other words, seconding CharlieG) -- give us a little more feel for the where & when of this thing. But I'm GLing anyway, 'cause it's close enough.

  • I agree about the title and I would like to have seen the topic established a little earlier in the piece and more of the audience. But then I would like to re-cut and maybe re-shoot everything I have ever done so what's new? It's a really good story and well told so it get a GL from me.

  • This is an awesome, awesome story! I can totally see it on TV, except it seems like it's missing a couple of things...

    I think a beggining of some sort? It just kinda jumped right in without any explanation... maybe even just a full screen saying what your description that says or something like "[this band's name] is launching a tour... at your local public library". That way dummies like me will know what your story is about before the guy starts talking.

    The only other thing is maybe it could have used some sots from some other people; audience members, lirbarians, the other guys in the band ["and we were all like, yeah, let's do this!"].... Actually who I think really, really think would have made the piece is the person who approached them with the idea. What was he thinking, where did he get the idea? Especially since the guy currently talking called him a "maverick librarian", he sounds like a character.

  • How about "Grunge, Text and Rock & Roll" Titles are easy to change, that's minor. What I LOVE about CTV is the 'workshop' aspect of the Current community, I find in my pods, you guys are usually right and I've re edited and reshot and for the better. This is a great idea. I'd like to start out with shots of the library maybe it's empty or something and hear the track under and could be an interesting juxtaposition, like, what's going on here? The the VO comes in. I don't get a sense of place, but it's a simply reedit, I agree will all the other comments, good job though, you're almost there. GL

  • Very cool piece, I really enjoyed it. Those opening cgs threw me off (are you thinking about changing them?), but after that I definitely got into the story. Greenlight!

  • i agree with most of the previous comments. i was looking for wide, establishing shots definitely and some context. but i, too, give you a green light because the concept is cool and anything that engenders reading in kids, i'm for. if you have extra b-roll, might be nice to tweak the piece a bit. mix up wide shots with tight, medium, etc.

  • Great video. The band looks fun. I would like to see more b-roll and shots of the library. Maybe another interview and not so many crotch shot close ups.

    Really liked the video and I agree most of the comments below. Here are my suggestions:

    -Consider changing the POV to more third person-like, that way you can ask question like, "Who are these dudes? Why are they playing in a library? Are they totally molesting the library scene or making it better? What does everyone else (kids/librarians) think?

    -More shots of kids faces and dancing - I would love to see some kids faces during the first few seconds of Never Saw it As Union. Maybe they don't know if they should be dancing or not cause they are used to getting yelled at for being loud in a library and then these guys come and just blast rock music in their faces...

    -Make it loud, really loud.

    Love what you guys are doing - keep it up!

  • very good overall; I, too, would like more audience shots, less instrument close-ups (keep Chad's), and the scene with the kid reading a book is a little long. also, fix Derek's last name!

  • Awesome. Very important issue. Getting teens to read is super important, I'm glad you took the time to bring attention to these guys.

  • OK, you sold me on it with the re-edits, so greenlight it is. I was reminded to come back and look at this video again because I actually just saw an article about this in the local paper... they just played at a library in a neighboring city.

    And I know this section is strictly for video comments, but you look a tad bit like Bebe Neuwirth

  • Being a new bass player I understand the work that goes into making mausic well, and being in a band I would love to be able to play and make a difference.

    I think this was a great thing for you to do, and it would be nice if more bands took this kind of idea and made it real.

  • the high strung are such an amazing band!
    both times i have seen them- in michigan and in florida- they have put on some of the most fun rock shows i have been to.. the whole library concept is awesome! i am really glad that someone made a pod about them.

  • There is a massively popular project in the UK called Get It Loud In Libraries that shows staging gigs by great new bands brings in a whole new teen crowd.

    Bands like The Thrills, Bat For Lashes, Tiny Masters of Today, Harry and The Potters and stuff.
