"A Loud Color" is a documentary about New Orleans resident Louis Harding and his attempt to rebuild his African-American community center. Louis spent years trying to open his Marcus Garvey Resource Center in the hopes of educating the youth in his neighborhood. He was finally able to offer his first summer program last year, but when Katrina struck and the levees broke, the center was destroyed. Despite the setback, Louis refuses to give up. While sorting through the debris of his life, he discusses the history of African-American in New Orleans and why opening the center is more important now than ever before. www.aloudcolor.com

  • Good solid informative piece. That old guy is incredible, you should let the viewer know how old he is, cause that is the question everyone will be asking themselves because of how active he is. But definite GL, and I am sure if it does not go to #1 that it will be a staff pick. How can you not.

  • Mr. Harding is a pioneer and an inspiration. Of course this film needs to be on TV. I gave it a greenlight because all the elements were there; a strong personality, great camera shots, excellent audio, a great message. I think if Mr. Harding could purchase 10 houses on the money he made cutting grass and have the entrepenureal spirit he still has, then others can only match his positive work ethic, intelligence and spirit. Mr. Harding did not stop moving throughout the piece. He's probably still working right now.
    GREAT JOB!

  • I just wrote a check to this man and licked the stamp. This film affected me that much. You can just FEEL his integrity. When you meet someone with such deep conviction, it reminds you of how few people there are like this. Thanks for the introduction. A VERY well-made portrait. Bravo.
  • Outstanding film and message!
This is the kind of inspiration and modeling we need as human beings to build connections and community. I hope the film airs in many places to spread its message and gather support for Mr. Harding's work.
Uplifting and engaging in its content and filming techniques.

  • BEAUTIFUL! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
  • Loved this...felt like it flew by and I wanted to hear more. I can't wait to see a full doc on this man, especially the follow up when he gets his properties back up and running. Seeing his bouyant personality, I am sure he will do it. Emphatic GL.

  • Thanks for all the great comments everybody. To answer your tech questions...it was shot with the DVX-100A in 24p mode. As for the upload, I just took the full resolution Quicktime and dropped it in to the VideoEgg upload window.

For those of you that sent donations to Louis....Thanks so much! Depending on what happens with the center I will consider doing a follow up.

  • Very nice. Lots of style, well done, good cuts. What I really like is the content, very micro-cosmically focused with larger themes. Imperfect cinema in action!

  • great video!!
  • I not only found the documentary moving but dead on. Thank you for allowing me to hear Mr. Harding's words. The video was engaging, interesting and informative. And it should be shown to every fourth or fifth grade student in the public schools throughout the country. And as sad as it was to see the devastation of so many years of hard work, dedication and civic mindfulness, Mr. Harding's prevailing attitude is inspirational. The producer of this short film is sharp.

  • Very moving. Watching this wonderful gentleman made me feel like I need to do something for my community. This man has done so much with so little. One person can make a difference.

  • The story is extremely compelling - however, the editing shows a lack of focus. This subject would do very well with a 'funnel' structure - building to a very specific moment that best illustrates the intent of the film. I feel like some of the portions detract from the overall presentation. Some editing would do wonders for the video (besides.. it'd have to be cut to five minutes anyway...)

  • AMAZING work, the music and cutbacks on the building helps deliver the story. but of couse a GL.
