The startling and sad account of the Bulldozing of the South Central Farm in Los Angeles
-
It is awefull. So sad. I feel so much with everyone who lost their farm.
-
Cool images. But it lacks info.
(I see your other LA Farm pod is more complete)
I think some Voice Over or text explanation would help a lot.
This is a very important topic, and Im glad you covered it.
I dont wan to say goodbye to the commons! -
The images speak for themselves...words are not necessary to express the sadness and havoc wreaked by one man's greed and Council Member Jan Perry turning her back against members of her own community. The developer, in reponse to his order to have the Farm bulldozed was quoted as saying "the garden needed pruning." Sad, very sad.

Bless you for filming this wake up call in American History......
Now is the time to wake up the heart of America for she beats loudly.....

I didn't see the prior video, so I don't know the full story, but the faces of the people say it all, and what it says is powerful. That's enough to prompt a GL from me. (Maybe provide some more context in titles at the beginning?)

Amazing video!
First of all, congrats for a quick reaction to real news. It's awesome to be commenting on something that was shot TODAY. This is how the whole studio concept should work, right?
But there's no story here. Why didn't you talk to the people who lost their community garden? climbing the fence? crying on the sidewalk and chasing the bulldozer? Or the guy in the bulldozer? And who's this Horowitz guy? The owner? The judge? I don't even know where to start. Which is frustrating b/c I'm so ready to support community gardens, sympathize with the people there and your story... But you lost me.
The cool thing is that it's not too late! You can go back to this block tomorrow and ask around and find folks in the community to interview.
A veteran newsman once told me something about radio storytelling - the original broadcast news... He said "It's people talking to people about people." And that applies to video too, except video is people talking to people about people, and cool pictures.
Don't leave out the people. -
this is chilling. i had to watch the previous video to get this one...so it seems to make sense to pair this with the other video to provide some context. GL regardless. such a sad story.

Congratulations on two good pieces! I heard on last night's news that the farm had been bulldozed but it was only a few seconds with no real video. I'm glad you gave the us a chance to see what happened, sad though it was. Your two stories on the farm comprise what I believe to be the future of journalism, full of new blood with a new view and a reignited ethic. I hope you will continue to follow this story. I would like to see the effect of this loss on some of the participants. And I hope you'll put it all together so we can see the story, beginning to end.

Sad, stupid and wrong, but, unfortunately, vegetables don't make
money for the developer, and that is obviously all he cares about.
If we have a planet to live on in the future, it will be because of
films like these -- showing the sad truth of "developing" in the
direction of greed instead of green. That a working farm of such
magnitude and obvious merit to everyone involved can be so
callously destroyed shows why the planet is in such trouble today.
These 2 films are riveting. Congratulations, Michael. You get my
greenlight all the way. -
Beautiful. Your use of sound is first rate.
-
What's wrong with this? This is the progress we've all been dreaming about right? It's the American Dream! You're living it, seeing it right here in front of your eyes.
-
It's so sad to see the greed of man so evident.

Do all those people crying realize that the house they live in was made the same way... there's NOTHING sad about this?!?!
-Nate -
Nate, maybe you didn't pay attention to what's going on. This is a community farm in the middle of an urban scene. I don't know where you live, but I live in Brooklyn and we need to support the green land in urban neighborhoods as much as possible. This is just another example of how people with money and connections can step all over people that care about their communities.
