As opposed to a craft made purely for pleasure, this is a working boat whose beautiful lines and speed belie its origins as the workhorse of the Adirondack Guide.
Produced, written, and hosted by Dale Canning.
Cinematography and editing by Benjamin Jones.

This piece has great flow due to good editing and beautiful filming. Love the narative along with the historical photos. We should all learn something new each day of our lives. This piece makes this possible for anyone who watches it.

very interesting, beautiful cinematography. would suggest varying up the music a bit as because of the serenity of the landscape and the craft, it relaxed me maybe a tad bit too much towards the end. well done. eleni

nice work, boy. For a minute I thought I was watching the Histroy Channel. The only problem I had, was I kept thinking about what it would be like to have a deer for a pet. but I guess that's for another documentary.

This is a subtle yet highly skilled montage of the functional uses and artistic design of the adirondack guideboat .

The camera angle, editing style, lighting choices, shot composition, set design, and color schemes add to the overall complexity of the film.

I would imagine the inner bark of trees to be tastier than trail mix..maybe.

    Bravo Ben and Dale!

Its wonderful to see someone capture important crafts like the traditional building of this guideboat before they disappear. The background and history of the area really filled out the piece and help me better appreciate what makes this boat so special. Thank you for sharing.

Loved the film, Dale. Made me miss upstate NY!!! I could smell the mountain air.... I'm happy to share this film with fellow Yankee-blooded southerners, many of whom are from CNY. Really well done, informative, organic....Keep 'em comin!

Oh, and don't forget about us when you get famous....

As usual, I learned something new from you Dale. This is a wonderful video ... makes me want to go to the Adirondacks and try out one of those boats... ok, at least sit in one while you row!

    Cool!
I admire Dale's skill; and am impressed with anyone who can work with a doe at his feet. A wonderful film.

Did I see Bob Villa peeking in the side window of that workshop?

Nice job! Well scripted and visually appealing. Since watching it, I've been looking at all my stuff to see if there's a transparent layer of fiberglass on it...

Now, where do I go if I'm ever in the Adirondacks?

This is a valuable and wonderful view of some of the many interesting people and professions in the area. This is the real United States that many people never have the opportunity to view. Here is your chance to see part of our wonderful country through the eyes of people who live and work in the Adirondacks. Great video.

This film is informative, well-organized, and well-scripted. It provides an interesting presentation of the Adirondack Guideboat--blending historical facts and current interests in a beautiful, "back-to-nature" setting. I really enjoyed watching and learning about the construction of the Adirondack Guideboat (and hope to try this out some day).

I really enjoyed watching this. Glad you Gl'd mine to draw my attetion to yours.
    Well done.

I did a kayak trip last summer, and am planning another this summer... maybe the guideboat is the way to go.

Thanks for the kind words on""small town" I"ve been trying upload a new version for 4 days now.. there's a problem somewhere. You're right, it's an issue that went away as soon as BIG MEDIA saw Anna N. die... sad isn't it.

An utterly delightful wee film. I'm a European based in New York City with my wife and two sons. We have no idea as to how long we'll be in the States but feel very strongly about exploring this extremely beautiful and varied place and films like this are such an important resource. I loved it and will be watching it again. I will show it to my family as we plan our excursions and having seen it will endeavor to make a trip upstate and perhaps even take a few spins in the boats themselves. Much to explore. I hope there are many more such uplifting and informative films here at Current TV.

Once again another failed opportunity to show case the real boats. The video is well done but misleading to the public about the real guideboats. With this type of info the real boats will dissapear as people will think these strippers and kevlar boats are the real thing , A disservice to the remaining builders who build in the 100 plus year old tradition.Pat builds a nice boat but the method is nowhere near the craftsmen ship required to build the authentic boat
