Great combination of interview and images. One of the best "environmental" movies I've seen on Current TV and perhaps one of the most influential.

Tempo is to slow, especially in the beginning. i had to force myself to continue to watch and listen. My instinct was to stop paying attention.

Also, it would have been nice to touch on the subject of evolution's impact on species dietary needs. Peter himself brought up the point that early man *had* to eat meat in order to survive and evolve. So isn't' it to late for us? Aren't we designed for meat eating at this point? If not... why?

The inefficient ratio of protein and other nutrients when converted from grain to meat is a problem that needs more attention.

Environmental and economic effects will be far reaching if socio-cultural norms do not change.

the subject matter is relevant, timely. Thought the fade ins and splicing in of other scenes helped break the monotony of the interview. Would suggest showing an alternate point of view (perhaps) and maybe filming the subject from more angles/different settings.

Good mini docomentary. Like somebody already comment litte bit monotonic. And you have to remember that situation isn't same in all countries. In many countries they are really watching that animals are treated nicely.

Singer is a great advocate for sustainable food production. And your visuals are often quite remarkable.

What I would suggest, if you ever want to expand this into a longer format, is to go with him to a few different food retailers: a conventional supermarket, a healthfood store and, say, a farmers' market and have him give the viewer a tour of how to make purchasing decisions. Have him interact with the staff. That might be fascinating.

I'd also try to draw out a wider range of feeling from Mr. Singer. What makes him angry? Hopeful? What political movements is he drawn to?

Could you add something about how the world got to this point and where it's going. A global population of less than a billion people could perhaps live in balance on an omniferous diet. Are we genetically prepared to eat meat?

i belive that we need to do somthing to get our Earth back to bing the healthy thriving evnviorment that we want to live and b a part of. if everyone took a stand for what thy belived in and what they thought was right we could mak such a differance. we need to care for our earth and treat it with respect. war and lik this video on the animals and the way we harvest our food needs to take a dramatic change unless we are looking foward to having an undesireable future filled with diease and hate predjudice and climate problems .. so be the differance and take a stand for what you belive in .. do you have th strength to take action?

I think its something that people need to know about and I think just cutting animal products from our diet could totally change the direction that our environement is heading in now. Just doing this could solve most of the problems that our world is currently facing.

I liked the ethical ideas presented and the interview was very direct. I felt it ran a little long and dragged at some points with a little too much focus on the interview film which remains visually stagnant for the duration of the clip. More referenced data would go a long way to show the economic and ecological impact of large scale farming. Without referencing independent data the interlude cards come off as a little propagandist.

Its not our fault, we as humans are omnivores and its big business that is mainly at fault. I would have liked the blame squarely put there. Maybe a little more emphasis on the 'business' end of the food industry in future edits. good subject matter.

It's a little jaded, and borderline's PETA, but there are a few reasons as to why, and still the guy speaking remains neutral on his points wishing (much like I would) to still have animals for food when all is said and done gives him some backbone that most people don't have who cator to one side only.

This is timely and important information in light of the interest in climate change. We can change our world. Serve2Conserve!

Great video except I'd like to see a spotlight on companies and farms that do it better. There are farms that treat animals well and the best way to change behavior is to use the power of the purse. A few spotlighted companies could help those who watch the video make a change.

This a propaganda film for PeTa and HSUS who want to kill off the Farms and right now are working to kill your right to own pets in main state here in the US.
the shots of some of these animals being killed are stock footage shot form some 10 to 15 years old.

I seen nearly all of the footage of the animal in PeTa vidios and HSUS as well and his scrip is right out of the Peta hand book We don't need to air propaganda film for PeTa and HSUS here on current

Before this I had brushed off the idea of animal rights when I had gotten brochures from PETA. This completely blew me away though. I hope to get more involved with this even though I know it will be hard for me to get away from meat.

It's true we should treat our animals better but I don't think we need to stop eating meat like some people say. Great pod btw hope it gets on, not sure who would say no to this pod.

GL. Overall good. May I offer some constructive criticism?

1. It was too long and I felt like he started rambling about half way through. Find the "meat" of the story and tell that (like my pun?).
2. maybe you can break it up with the same points being made by someone else, or a narator, or by him in a different setting like that book signing.
3. Use some sort of contrast filter on the footage. I felt like it was washed out and hazy. If you use FCP, search "Lyric Shadow-Highlight".

Very informative. I wonder if I couldn't be edited into two different pods, though, to make it shorter...

Comparing animals to slaves is absolutely rediculous. Animals are not people. I'm not saying that we should treet them badly, but seriously.

This pod was extremely informative to those of us who are not aware of the issues associated with Americas eating habits. I like the fact that it's short enough that hopefully those who don't care enough now, might just take the time to see the impact the choices they make have on the environment today and in the future and they might just take some action. Veal has never been appetizing to me nor will it ever be thanks to the information you have shared. Thank you.

Nicely done. I completely agree more with the points your interviewee raised. We especially need to continue to the move to organic fertilizers--everywhere--not just in rural, agricultural settings.

Don't take offense I would like to offer some constructive criticsim on the editing and production of this pod to make it more effective because I think it is an important message. First off it's way too long. Several of Peter's points are redundant and can be taken out to make the stronger points hit the viewer even harder. Secondly, you use way too many fade in-outs--they are distracting--just make them cut shots unless you are cutting to, say the factory shots or still photos. Also you use way to many jump cuts to Peter--there is more footage like interiors of grocery stores etc that you could use to break that up. I think there are actually two issues within the subject --1) cruelty to animals, which most people unfortunately don't care about and 2) environmental effects and global warming. You absolutely must mention that cows contribute 1/3rd of the world's methane (in dung, farts, and as they decompose)--which is way worse than CO2--1 cow is equivalent to the output of 25 cars. This is fact. People who don't care about animals may respond more to this--it's more effective to expand the reach of your pods beyond people that think like you. Finally, Peter's comment that compares human disregard for animal rights to the slave trade should open the piece as the main sound bite to support issue #1--it's a very strong statement and gets lost among the sound bites you sandwhich it between. I understand these are many pointers to receive (and I may seem obnoxious), but I hope that they are perceived as helpful--I think you have done a great job and that the piece could just be tweaked a bit to work better.

Definately for t.v. We need people presenting solutions that businesses and consumers will greenlight also. Animal cruelty should have definitions for the 21st century. Thank you for the video.

The truth must be known.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Producing this piece has had a dramatic effect on the way I look at eating now. I can't say that I am a vegetarian 100% because I eat fish; however my girlfriend and I are now eating almost 100% organic and local when possible. There is a change that is beginning to take hold, even here on the East Coast, once again, a step behind the West Coast!

I think the main point of this piece is that animals are living beings just like people and they should be treated with the same type of respect. They deserve to live their life with a decent place to live, and available clean water and food. This job and responsibility is ours as long as we continue to take part in the consumption of animals for food.

It's probably true,.. we should all become veg's,... but this guys speaks a bit of "hogwash", about prejudice against animals,.. etc. I like hamburgers, but if I had to kill a cow, or deer, I would never be able to do it and would become a veg! Give us some real choices, huh Peter???? Thanks. This video is worth watching,.. take the hit!

I think this is very important to get out to the public, this matter must be looked into and a change is a must!!!

Great pod. It's hard to watch some the scenes of what really goes on in the farms and slaughter houses. But most people just turn a blind eye to the reality of it so they can shop without a moral conscience. Humans are destructive beings, and destroy everything they touch. I am sadded to say that I don't beleive we will ever change. For the small but growing few that wish to protect the planet this task is futile. With all the technology we posses it is not used wisely. Bio diesel has been known about for years, why is it only now being brought further into the light? Due to the war and oil dependency!!! Not because we are that concered with the planets health. That is a secondary benefit isn't it!

This is also an important issue, when they animals start running, there's a problem. When the animals are hurt, we are next in line! I do believe proteins are an important source of energy, but do we really need things like, fast food, or things like that? We do need to be balanced, but an abundace of animals is hurting both sides, humans and animals. What happens when the animals are all gone? Will we eat each other?! Ugh.

Great! Good stats in there, too. We also need to remember the detrimental effects that mass farming has on the environment. I'm quite passionate about this and wish we could see footage of little calves cooped up on major networks...if you can, check out my pieces as well!

This is a well done pod with much information that needs to be seen. Also, thank you for mentioning the amount of water we waste on agricutlure. 70% of all water used is for agriculture, and its waste has now along with climate change created a global water crisis where over one billion are now without potable water with predictions that by 2025 two thirds of this world will be without potable water. We must reassess our priorities in this life and become morally responsible for our actions against other species and ourselves. Thank you for doing this.

Gentlly presented piece about horrifyingly violent issues. Very good documentary filmmaking. I learned from the approach.

Good stuff...it was for many of those reasons that I decided to go vegan, consuming no animal products in my life. Buying locally grown organic foods as well as growing our own is essential, and it's good to see that message getting out to more people. GL.

Great information. Might be too long to keep the attention of some viewers. However, this is a critical story that unfortunately mainstream media refuses to address (could it be that there is a tie between their profits and the advertising revenue coming from companies providing these products)?

Your video gives the viewer real world implications to help inform us of where our food comes from and the consequences of buying food from companies that only care about one thing...profit...

There are a lot of great companies now that supply food products in a sustainable, environmental and humane fashion. Our choice in products does matter. I hope your video will encourage others to vote with their dollar and support companies that are making a positive difference. GL

i like singer's views on philanthropy as well, very interesting. I wonder whether Singer will now start framing the issue much more around climate change (which he briefly mentioned here) rather than cruelty, given the sort of coverage climate change is getting which will only be going up. i agree with the comments about it being shorter - and perhaps another thought would have been to interview some activists or people that went to his book readings to get another flavour in there and break up his voice which is pretty monotonous throughout. i was hoping that he would praise organics in the end, it gave some much-needed hope of progress, as it was all very sad up to then. if it were shorter that would have come sooner, which I think would have been good.
