+++ FINALLY: WE GOT EVERYTHING FIXED. CHECK IT OUT! WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO GET YOUR GREENLIGHT +++

Hebron is one of the biggest cities in the Palestinian Territories. After the Oslo Accords Israel withdrew partially and now the city is divided into two sectors. One under Israeli and one under Palestinian control. Unfortunately, life in Hebron is not always peaceful.
We want to know what local people in our age think about the situation.

  • Look into the sound situation as well -- some of the interviews can barely be heard.

  • Huhu Steffchen, hallo Jörg! Great, interesting film. Very good work. I want more... more screen and more of that topic... Sometimes the sound is dificult to understand. Can you improve this a bit? Cheers and love from Berlin(ale), Anne
  • Awesome!! Everyone should see this!!!
  • Very interesting topic especially considering the current development. Even though only a quarter of the picture can be seen, one can tell that the authors have combined good pictures, interesting characters and accurate comments to some strong story-telling. I've certainly learned something by listening to and watching the film.
    Keep it up.

  • Thank you for producing this "on the ground" perspective.

It would have been informative to know that a lot of people don't want their faces shown, and that's why the camera is focused elsewhere. It took me to almost the end of the video to have figured that out. :)

PS - one minor technical note: i would advise applying some EQ to your future productions and "rolling off" the everything under 200Hz or so on all of your field audio: my subwoofer was going crazy with the road vibrations and occasional wind(?).

    Very nice pod.

  • There are some really nice elements here...well shot and interesting material. But there's also a lot of dead space. Could be cut down to a much stronger 3:30. Great work though, GL.

  • The images and the interviews you selected for this pod were great. I was disappointed when it was over! I can't wait to see more.

  • Hey Steffi & Jorg!

I'm glad you guys decided to focus on Hebron.

I spent a few weeks there, in Tel Rumeida (H2, the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron), after last semester ended.

I think this piece makes it seem as if the problem is that both sides are simply unwilling to communicate out of some basic stubborness. It's dangerously misleading. The problem with H2 is not just that the settlers are *extremely* violent towards the native Palestinians, but that there is a military occupation in place which completely supports the rights of the settlers over the Palestinians.

I think you can get a much better sense of what's going on in Hebron from the videos at www.telrumeidaproject.org. Can I suggest that you get in touch with a group like Breaking the Silence and try to hook up with one of their tours of the area?

I'd be more than happy to talk with you about this, if you want. I don't want to put my email up here, but you can get it from Beth.

Hope you are both doing well, enjoying the springtime.

    xo, Sally
  • Hey Sally, thanks a lot for your comment. Your are right, that we wanted to talk in our piece about communication inside Hebron. When we first went there, we wanted to explore everyday life and not what happens once half a year - we didn't want to show only the extremists on both sides, that we already know from TV. We believe, that what we found is the average person in Hebron, and not the extreme people who normally attract attention. Showing only those people could easily lead to a picture, that doesn't reflect the everyday situation in Hebron. Although we are very much aware of extremists and know, that it's important to discuss their point of view - we only wanted to give an introduction for a discussion.
It's also very interesting to hear the different opinions from the other people who have watched our podcast. Depending on their background they have different feelings about what we have shot. We don't have either jewish or palestinian heritage and just tried to focus on our first impression. If that leads to a discussion - that's great and we invite more people to go for it.

  • really great topic. liked the way the fact came across that there is this huge discrepancy between the size of arab and jewish population in Hebron. interesting, hadn´t had a clue.

the audio could do with some makeover, but everything came across, so you can live with it.
coté image: i particularly liked the scrolling back of the image to Tel Aviv towards the end. nice touch.
    GL from me.

  • it's really important 2 know more about the middle east.
  • in general i think that the pod represents the current situation pretty well but the history of this place is so deep and long that it should be considered.
good luck and i hope to see more from both of u.
  • I enjoyed your presentation of a difficult and heated topic. I really felt the sense that Hebron is not only a divided city, but a state within a state. This piece was a good introduction, but there is so much more to be shown, asked, said and done. I would like to see a more in depth, and balanced view of the situation should you have time to really get deep into the hearts and minds of those you interviewed, and the politicans on both sides of the fence. Again, a great start, and I hope to see more from you!

  • Hi Steffi und Jörg. Cooles Video! ;-) Felix
  • Hey susse, great film,
    I really enjoyed watching it,
especially as a soldier who served there in Hebron and didn't know the other sides' point of view..
    Thank you Steff........
