The Nebraska Humane Society was established in 1875. It was originally created to provide safe haven, or to provide for the welfare of children and animals.

In the 1940’s, when social services began to take over child welfare, they became the sole provider of animal welfare in the city of Omaha and its surrounding area.

The organization offers a large number of services to the community and its pets, and their mission is to provide for the welfare of animals, and through them enrich the community in which they serve.

  • Good story...could be a bit shorter but it's certainly an important current event considering all the homelss pets that are out there. gl

  • This video should be available to all the people coming into your shelter, because so many people don't know what it takes to care for a pet! This is helpful.
  • good topic. some parts seemed to be too wordy, but interesting. if i lived in nebraska, i would make my way down tomorrow to adopt the black puppy chasing her tail. if you havent already, you should watch "good night tex" on current. slightly different topic but very touching.

  • It’s a very important subject and it must be shown to word to let the people know about this wonderful project.
  • Sweet story ... although I found the freeze frames a bit distracting. Maybe try using some small amount of motion on those stills instead of just leaving them static. Nice promo for the humane society's use, though.

Thanks for your comment on my shark pod.
  • Great in all the meanings. GL
  • I tried to comment on this last night but I can't get through it, it's TOO sweet and heartbreaking for this New Yorker. Ha! Great job, I want to just adopt them all, but alas, no pets here. Thanks again for your kind words on my new pod. link Getreel keep up the great work, how much to we love CTV?

  • Nice story. I liked the stills to a point. I have some good shots for projects, but the people in them don't do anything at all. After seeing this, I'll try using them as stills too.

  • Ienjoyed watching your pod.
    I myself love animals.
My dog ( a mixed blk Lab) will be 14 years old this coming January.
I have defended them (dogs & cats) that have been eaten here in the U.S.A.
    This is not a joke.
My published scathing letter (several years ago) against a certain group of people did not bode well with them but I did get my point across (along with a local animal rights group) to alert others to this problem within our community.
From Black Crows to Horse Shoe Crabs.
    I defend them all.
A big bright GL for you.

  • This is great...The interviews and b-roll are well placed along with the music. The more people understand the responsibility of having a pet, the better. Every animal deserves a loving and caring home. I have volunteered time and produced a PSA for a local no-kill shelter for a campaign to "spay & neuter your pets". "black IS cool" all my cats have been black. GL

  • Great film clip and summary of the Nebraska Humane Society there in Omaha. I have come to understand more of the "heart" and "spirit" of those who work at the Humane Society and all others who devote their time/effort in loving and taking care of these animals. I have an enormous amount of admiration for those who were responsible for making this film clip.. and too, three years ago, I did indeed adopted my first dog, Brook, a chocolate lab/springer mix pup at the Nebraska Humane Society. Ha, only again to take on two more dogs, a black lab and just now, a Lhasa-Po into my family. Yes, animals do have a HUGE amount of love to offer, truly they have taught me how to love in return!!

  • I love the commentary with the film, it goes great together. I love the story also. good luck with my light my green light that is peace!!!
  • Enjoyed this sooo much! I felt it represented the Humane Societies animals, and also everyone involved, their jobs, etc. that make this operation a successful one! Is heart warming....and also very informative. I believe I want a kitty ! :)
  • Great job! I really liked it. Great message, and very well put together. You have the skills to pay the bills.

A few suggestions; keep it short. Seven minutes seems a bit lengthy. The pod was well edited, but you could've easily told this story in under five minutes. I am not saying you should cram everything in, but you could definitely trim it down.

And be careful with your graphics. That colored box with the feathered edge you used on your interview could annoy some people. Everyone complained about my blue text in Diminishing Habitat.

Again these are just technical suggestions. Your message was strong, and that is what the essence of the pod is. I applaud you for making this pod.

And thanks for the comment on my video. I appreciate it greatly and I am glad you liked it.
  • I would like to say “THANK YOU” to all of those that have voted, or posted a comment on this pod. It was truly a blessing to interact closely with each and every one of these animals, and I tried my best to pay tribute to as many of them as I could, while trying to keep the piece at a reasonable length.

The opportunity to experience the unconditional love that these animals have to offer is priceless. Therefore, in the spirit of respect for all living things, all I wish is that the biggest majority of them can find a loving and caring family – not only through this Humane Society, but through similar organizations across the country and around the world.

THANKS AGAIN for supporting this cause!!

Your pod was the first one I viewed since joining tonight. Your message was delivered
powerfully by all the cast. It may have been a little long. I agree with one of the other posters that you could have gotten across your message in 5 minutes. Nonetheless, I thought it was very well done. The animals were out front like they should be and they really drove your point home. I liked when the leading lady said these animals are domesticated which means they need us to take care of them. Nicely done pod.

  • GL. This is a great profile of not only the featured facility, but of the great work Humane Societies across the States do every day. I also appreciated the excellent editing work...this is a great lesson in how to produce an engaging pod to someone like me just starting out.
    Thanks!
  • Hi, I liked the film. It is a little sad. I agree that in this place animals are much better than on the street, but still "spay and neuter" is kinda cruel. Controvercial stuff. People excercise too much control over nature. I mean in general.

  • This is a great heart string puller. It is very well done: music, editing, rhythm, and a great topic. I want people to see this and go adopt a dog or cat.. I hope this makes it to TV.

  • Hi Fernando,

Good stuff! Considering the duration was 7 minutes, I think the story was comprehensively told. The piece was well shot and edited with really nice, complementary music. You also succeeded in making virtually every single animal look cute!

GL also for spreading the message, which is the main thing.

My one, small criticism is the grey border with the text / logo on it, which was used on most of the talking head shots. I think this gave what is essentially an emotional appeal video an almost corporate edge. I would have used less of this, or perhaps done something a little different. Was there a reason why you covered half of the frame or was it simply an aesthetic choice?

Either way, well done. And thank you for your comments on my piece.

    I look forward to more.

    Peace.

  • Hey, thanks for the input on my film "Lanterns of Quimbaya". No BS, but I saw your film here last week and can't find the comments I made. The beginning posters said something about the stills, but I liked them. I sometimes have great shots, but nothing really happens, after seeing this I now know I can just use VO on a still. One other reason I liked this while editing mine was because you have interviews with cutaways, like mine. Your's was over 7 minutes and I didn't feel it slow at all. I also meant to ask you where in SA is Pantazonia. I lived in the Colombian Amazon for 6 months.

  • This is an important piece -- thanks for producing it! As I write this I look around at all my cats (I'm embarrassed to say how many) -- neglected, abused, and unwanted by others -- and wish more people would take responsibility for these innocent creatures. If everyone were to have their own pets neutered and vaccinated, and do the same for strays at their workplace and in their neighborhoods (most communities have organizations that will help trap and neuter feral and homeless pets), much of this suffering could be avoided. Almost everyone has the opportunity at one time or another to save the life of an abandoned or homeless pet -- doing so is not only rewarding, but it's the right thing to do.
  • I'm happy to see the video is doing well!

I'd love to get our opinion on our new video "Navajo Weaving" link

  • I would like to say THANK YOU for the continuous support on this pod. All the comments, and constructive criticism are always very much appreciated.
  • Excellent content and execution. Those dogs and kitties are adorable. GL
  • Nice video, easy to follow provided a lot of good info, I got a kick out of the tunes. Edited well and tons of grreat animal shots. Made me want to get a pet. The micro chips weirded me out a bit.

And of course I'm going for a shameless plug if you want to check out my new and cool promo go on and click this link and give me some feedback to make it better its only 11 seconds long.

    Cheers Talbott
  • Thanks for your comments. Sorry for the late response. Wanted to make sure to watch your piece in one sitting and give you a just feedback. I think it was very well-shot and edited. You went for the classical approach and were consistent through out. My only complaint stylistically was the gray feathered borders in the interview shots. I think you can do without -- interviews will be more credible with a simple white text on lower thirds. Story-wise, perhaps it would have been nice to see one or two of these pets with people who adopt them, and how that may have changed their lives. Puppies are cute, but puppies making a kid smile are even cuter and makes this more of a human-interest story. GL.

  • Kitties! Doggies! coochie coo! Great pod i fel like owning one of these now.
  • I am very grateful for the overwhelming support coming from all of you. THANK YOU!

I believe this Humane Society is representing a cause, which is also embraced by many other organizations here in the United States and in all parts of the world. This cause, in my view, is about treating animals with love and respect. It is also about getting as much information as possible prior to taking the responsibility of being a pet owner, so that it can be a commitment for the length of the animal's life, and that the experiences associated with it can only enrich our lives in many different ways.

    THANKS AGAIN!
  • GL. I adopt and embrace this cause. Thank you for your brilliant job.
